Solar Water Heater

This was my first attempt at constructing a solar water heater system.

The system consists of a 55 gal. tank, a 24vDC SHURflo 3.0 gal/min pump and a 200-watt, 24-volt mono-crystalline PV panel. The Pump draws 3.5 Amps, the PV outp My 'Man Cave' (2012) ... it looks worse now (no elbow room) :( These are a couple of 40-watt multi-crystalline solar panels I purchased from DiscountSolar (on ebay) last year. Free shipping, but CA tax. These were $160. with tax, making them $2./watt ... not too bad.

Construction is very good, and being multi, the The rack assembly I fabricated for the 40-watt panel (x2).

Racks were fabricated using left over scrap materials. Bases are fiberglass UniStrut, cross member is shallow steel Unistrut. Hinges made from aluminum ''U' channel and struts from some 'L' ang Here's the little '83 XT-200 I picked up in the summer of 2012. I really miss my old '72 250 DT1, but I decided to go 4-stroke this time. Tokyo Hi-Power HT-750. 6m/15/40m cw/ssb HT. Cool little radio with an extremely hot receiver. The box is constructed from 2 x 4s and 3/8" plywood (painted black). Testing the new solar collector. The temperature inside the box rose to over 200F degrees in less than 30 minutes ... better than I thought it would produce.
