After months of anticipation and reading about Yaesu's new APRS/TNC dual band mobile Universal radio has finally released a price and are taking orders now. At 629.95 it's a nice chunk of change for anyone's wallet.

Yaesu FTM-350R FTM350 Mobile Transceiver

With that being said I will wait as I already own a Kenwood TM-D710 and a VX-8R and do not have a pressing need for another VHF/UHF rig in the shack or mobile for that matter. Sure looks cool though! Take Care. Mike KC2PLJ

Geeze one could by a nice HF rig for that price Ide rather buy another FT-857D and have all that and more thats just me.Although it is a sweet new radio minus that price tag.

Yes!

My thoughts exactly, I would have to sell my FT-857D (not a chance!) just to fund this thing. No way, I like my HF/VHF/UHF shack in the box! It does SSB on VHF/UHF to! The FTM-350 is nice but not luring enough to sell my all mode FT-857D, Mike KC2PLJ

i love the looks of the rig:

This is also how I was looking at it.

even as a technician ham where vhf/uhf is the biggest thing going, i could not spend that kind of cheddar on a radio. she sure is purty, though!!

I agree on the eventual pricedrop. Most people will just buy older rigs because they do what most want them to ( TALK 2 METERS AND 70 CENTIMETERS) Alot of us just want to beable to talk and can careless about how pretty it looks and some of the added features we would most likely never ever use.

There askin to much for that. With that much money i could get a D-Star radio (which i am in Jan) and get the programing cord and still come out with change .

I think the premium price is for the built in APRS functions.

Yep. You have to keep in context what you are purchasing. The price is higher than I was hoping for also, but I guess I kind of expected it.

This radio has a built in TNC capable of performing all the APRS functionality. If you were to use a regular 2m/440 and purchase a separate TNC like the Timewave PK96 to provide this functionality, you would have spend $200 for the TNC. So, subtract $200 from the price to get a fair comparison against other 2m/440 radios and you'll see it's "in the ballpark", although it looks like you're still paying a premium for some of the features.

I just saw that the U.S. version of this radio will also do 1 watt on 220Mhz. I doubt I'll be buying one anytime soon, but it does look like a neat rig. I wonder if it can crossband repeat? I don't think so...I haven't seen that mentioned anywhere.
