FTM-350 Mobile Install

Yes it does, which is another nice feature. Most will want the mic plugged into the control face when the two are separate. I, however, plan to put the display up on the roof of my Jeep (which is converted to a pickup truck with a custom hard top) and will have the main box just behind me between the seats. So I'll likely plug my mic in there instead of the control face because it'll actually be closer to me that way and won't result in a dangling cable.
Ah, flexibility! Now if Yaesu would ever get the stupid GPS cable available. Because of that location I can't really use the internal GPS and need to do it external. Apparently the sell EVERYTHING you need for that little endeavor except the cable.
Cable supposed to be available soon. We'll see.

Nice. I like the way you did all of that...very clean. Interesting comments on the comparison to the Kenwood, as well.
A note on external speaker useage; if you're intending to use a single speaker as an external... then don't use a 3.5mm mono plug; it needs to still be a stereo plug with unique wiring.

I've been told that the Yaesu optional external speaker for the FTM-350R (MLS-200-M10)has the same stereo plug & wiring arrangement.
also, I found the hand mics PTT to be very sensitive; even the slightest pressure invoked TX. I disassembled the mic and filed down a little of the PTT actuator. It doesn't take much removal of material to make an improvement. Now I have to push the PTT in -at least- halfway before TX will commence.
I LOVE THIS RADIO !!!
I installed the internal GPS option and get at least 7 sats... and up to 12 sometimes. I'll post pics of my install hopefully this weekend. And you can always check my FTM-350R web page listed above.

Thanks for the info on the external speaker. I installed one yesterday after mounting the radio body under the passenger seat. I noticed I had hardly any audio when adjusting the volume out of the right side.
I was also thinking of a way to modify the PTT. It seems to get activated sometimes just by picking up the mic from the holder.
Check out the final install of the radio body.

handmic PTT issue;
just to clairfy... I removed (filed) material from the PTT plastic piece itself - the "tang" that makes contact with the switch. I did not try to remove anything from the switch itself.
Also, the PTT return spring is not a real spring... but a piece of foam rubber. I don't know how long that will hold up.
