RFX-150 sold out/discontinued??????????

You might just be better off getting an RM Italy KL203P and add a fan to it. Not sure what radio you are using, but the uniden 980 CB/SSB radio works very well with this amp as a combo for about 75-100 watts of power. You'll need to turn the dead key or carrier down on your radio to as little as 2 watts max. Leave SSB at the stock power levels of 10-12 watts and you'll be fine. On AM you'll get about 6-8 watts pep out of the 980 with a 2 watt dead key. A lot of people go lower with the dead key, but the internal diagnostics of the radio itself start to act funny if you do this. Just some food for thought. Also I did see a place selling the RFX 85HD units. Not sure how reliable of a place they are. But a Google search will bring them up. The site is called pricefalls.com. They are selling the rfx85hd units for about $60 dollars. If they still have them. At any rate, I still would go with an external amp. Check the forums for one of these as well. Someone may have one. A 2 transistor amp is all you truly need. Good luck and hope some of this helps.

I have one in stock, but it is not for sale. It is better to purchase a radio that has all of the bells and whistles on it. Including power.

New information on the RFX product line.
The 150 is discontinued. It is being replaced with the RFX85HD. This is a high drive version.
I checked with my distributor and that is what I was told.

Ok thanks for the info

I played havoc trying to get an RFX-85HD.... Much like the RFX-150, you can't find them anymore. Perhaps certain distributers can get them still, but I searched the 'Net for months trying to locate an RFX-85HD, with no luck. I did eventually find one from a place thru Amazon, but it was their last one. Doesn't work real well on SSB, though. Sounds a little fuzzy around the edges, and when you adjust the biasing up on the 7530 to clean it up, it goes short.

The interesting thing of note is that the RFX-150 was a very good piece. I installed several of those on various export radios and they performed well.

The RFX-85HD though was a different story. I've not only gone thru 3 of the ERF7530's in that thing, but every radio I installed it on sounded fuzzy on SSB. Now, if I biased it at 4V, it sounded good and looked good on the scope, but would knock out the 7530 in short order.

The ERF 7530's have a letter code stamped on them that indicates where the bias voltage needs to be set to run it properly. In the case of my 3 burned out 7530's, they all have a letter code of "E", which means they need to be biased between 2.8-3.0V at the gate. Biasing it at 4V = *poof*.

Unfortunately, biasing it at 2.8-3V makes it sound fuzzy on SSB.

I was disappointed to say the least. But.... they are mosfets, not bi-polars.

I have one already. Unless some got "leaked" out somehow.... I'm not sure. But i do have one. I've had it for about 3 months now. But I am totally out of ERF7530's now, so I don't have another one to install in the module. I had this installed on my Cobra 142GTL for testing purposes for a while, but I blew up 2 of the 7530's on that radio trying to get it to sound clean on SSB, so I tried it on a few other radios with the same results. The 3rd 7530 blew up when I had it installed on a Uniden Grant XL.

~Cheers~

Very good on an AM only radio. As long as the 7530 is biased within its specs, it does fine. The beauty of the HD version is that you don't have to remove the final and other components to install it. It uses the existing final in the radio to drive the module. For AM use it's fine, Just have to keep the deadkey input down a bit. It says in the instructions that the deadkey should not exceed 15W, same as the old RFX-75.

~Cheers~
