AM SKIP LINGO

As a life-long SSBer I personally think that DXing on AM is like self flagellation.

I was a big SSB'er back in the day.. I lived on lower LSB 38.. It was a long , long time ago.. I remember my exact setup :) I had a cobra 148 gtl with a D-104 , antron 99 on my chimney and I talked all over.. Then my friend gave me this 100 watt amp with SSB and I remember talking on LSB 38 to british columbia from NY, 4000 miles away.. It was really cool... Also my friends hated me because I had the bigger station, LOL! What a great time I had, so much fun.. :)

I did not abandon SSB. I doubt very much I will ever enjoy AM As much as I do SSB. Especially above 274050.
If I begin to bleed I will absolutely cease any future attempts at AM Dxing, and only use my that mode for local Rag chew.

Better re-calibrate your tape measure. :ROFLMAO: Even from Montauk Long Island to northwestern BC at the Alaska border is only 3070 miles. Good contact nevertheless. (y)

I remember when it seemed like the people on 38 lsb were more courteous but that seems to have gone away and it's getting worse. Lately I hear people fighting and jamming on the frequency. Even when that's not happening it sounds like channel 28 at the peak of the cycle.

I take it your the sheriff around here, you got to steal my thunder? LOL!! You also hammered me on my 120v amp thread when you obviously knew what I meant.. I better watch out when you are on pointing out everyones mistakes. ;)

Just breaking your balls, hope you have a good sense of humor.. :) Hey, when you are wrong you are wrong.. I will be the first one to admit when I was wrong.. (y)

You are correct about the distance, I was in the moment and put my foot in my mouth.. o_O

I wish everything was as simple to fix as 38 LSb.
My fix for the madness going on there is not to go there.
It amazes me why so many seem to insist on operating there.
Unless Anarchy is your thing then you don't want to be there.
I find the best conditions above 40.
It seems most operating 27.555 and above usually are on USB.
It suits me fine.
It's quiet, friendly, and if one's looking for a real DX qso that's where you wanna be.
Spent an hour on 27.685 with three locals who where in Canada.
It was as if I was talking to my own locals. Actually better. Good stuff. 73

Actually NO I did not know what you meant about the amp. Lots of guys quote wild numbers about their amps either from ego or lack of understanding and sometimes both. LOL As for the distance I was just yanking your chain. Canada is wider than the USA and I have driven coast to coast and thought "4000 miles?? That ain't right". LOL No harm no foul bud.

I definetly hear you on the wild numbers that people throw out there, either from lack of knowledge or they are going through an ego trip like you stated.. I have seen it many times.. :) I always tell it like it is and if I do not know about something , I say honestly I do not know, I do not throw out BS.. There are plenty of people out there that think they know everything, or they want to feel important.. Most of the time they wind up looking like an ass, especially if other people know the truth.. Anyway, glad you have a good sense of humor like myself, I was not offended by your post in any way, just breaking your balls.. But there some people that get really upset if someone corrects them.. I always say, you can never stop learning and maybe you can help someone down the road.. Ok, enough rambling.. LOL!

73's brother..

You can easily talk the world with 100w SSB and a ground plane.
The whole AM world starts lighting up with a beam and 500w.

FYI, i know of plenty of old timers that will not pick up the mic unless the station is giving them 20 over. If your a duck, you need all the mother nature on your side.

I talk worldwide on a barefoot stock DX959b running 12 watts PEP on SSB... i also DX using a Magnum 1012 walkie talkie on a BNC antenna running 7 watts PEP. You can easily do it without the extra wattage and personally I find that the victory is sweeter for me without the extra fire in the wire.

Anythings possible, just not likely.
