Just wondering if anyone out here have tried any power mics on the AT-6666? if so is there one that seems to be a winner with this radio? I was thinking of a road devil, as I am running this in my truck and its a bit noisy with tires and general road noise. Any suggestions?

Cheers!

The Road Devil is one of the best microphones for picking up your voice and not the noise. My vehicle is very loud inside and it's my #1 choice. It should match up fine with that radio as it's done well on the other CRE, Anytone and Lincoln newer models I've tested it on. If you have problems with a delay on keyup there a resistor mod you can add to fix it (I had that issue with the Road Devil on 2 of the newer style radios).

When mobile the last thing you want is a power mike as that will just make things worse. You want the Heil HMM Hand Mic. It is a directional mic with good side and rear rejection so it'll reject all the noise.

I'm using the Palomar SL41. Folks like the sound of the stock electret due to the low end frequency response.
The SL41 clips a bunch of bottom end response in the stock configuration, but that setting can be changed internally.

Thanks for the input guys, that Palomar sl41 looks interesting, might give one of those a try, it seems to be more durable then the road devil.

if you can find a used working 2018 xtreme they were awesome ! has a NC option for mobile (or base) and a great adjustable echo and double talk feature , as well as adjustable tall back . great full tonal quality also , but some like the peircing trebly sound that they believe cuts through skip/static better .

Since original mic uses electret capsule I would rather replace it with wm61a and adjust modulation %.

After putting the original element into a different case, and having the frequency response of the radio drastically altered, I'm quite impressed with the frequency response of the original element.
The acoustic properties of the factory microphone housing don't do the element Justice.

I didn't find a need to slap a powermic onto this radio, I opened the thing up and turned the modulation pot up a teenie bit, and so far EVERYBODY Ive spoken to with this thing has been asking me "what big box is that thing youre on? It sounds amazing!" I am not saying just go in there and start cranking on stuff, but if you dont know what youre doing, bring it to somebody who can do regular radio repairs and mods, and they will do the job for you and you wont be dissapointed. I haven't tried fm mode, but am, and ssb have been great so far! I hope this is helpful and hope you enjoy. (ps. Taking the steel weight that is screwed to the inside of these microphones make the mic much nicer to hold, as it being so small, the weight makes it hard to keep a hold of)

You do not want a power mic for that radio. You want an electret mic for it more than likely. Try a Palomar 41 if you do not want to roll your own! That said I roll my own and just base it off typical icom setup with the element of your choice. Most CB power mic's are junk today and unless you modify the amp inside of them and the audio circuit in the radio the sound quality is never what you want. Why would you want a power mic for a modern radio?Get a proper alignment on it and it should kick but! Noise canceling is code for tiny tinny sound! The stock mic should be head and shoulders better than any of the overpriced cheaply made modern power mic's designed for CB's. The problem is prob. the stock opamp used in the radio. You prob. need to change out some caps to tune it better or change out the opamp.

Echo and delay as used by 99.9% of CB'er's is nothing but a badge that screams white trash! If you can hear the echo and delay you are making it harder to understand you and killing performance. A hint of echo and delay to make your room sound more lively is fine but if you can actually tell it is an echo and delay it is too much!!! I will not even acknowledge a person with echo on the radio same thing for other stupid ignorant things like robot voice which is reverb taken to the extreme it was cool in the 1970's maybe even into the 1980's for a DJ at a club to use once in a while but not to have a conversation with someone.

Same applies to reverb just a hint is fine but if you can tell it has reverb it is too much.I have no idea why anyone wants to sound like a 1980's kids toy or 1980's Hero 1 robot! LOL WHy anyone is willing to talk to people with them is beyond me since they give you a headache and make it a chore to understand the person. They do nothing to help you talk further, break a pile up or be understood better. There is a reason why tv and broadcast radio are not booming with echo because no one wants to hear that garbage! When a cellphone is doing that by accident echoing it is anoying and almost impossible to talk to the person at the other end.

Power mic's are outdated and obsolete. When you had a lot of radio's that had 65% modulation 2.5 watts and no adjustment in the radio for modulation they might have made snese?

Where is the modulation pot located?

Power mikes still have their place. But it’s dependent on considered opinion from the other end. Test several mikes with a willing listener. A barefoot digital Uniden in mobile use is an example

As to Echo/Reverb, it’s a good deal of fun to agitate the user when it’s overdone. Cajole him into changing settings.

Or switch over to those settings on a big Galaxy to aggravate everyone. Has its place in radio horseplay
