I am picking up a 2990 with a couple issues and would like to know if there is anyone in Ontario or Michigan who works on them or if you know of a real good tech.
The symptoms are no TX audio and no RX audio but there is low ouput on the PA I guess.
It belonged to a local operator in my area who passed away this last year and would like to get it fixed and put back on the air as a tribute radio to him.
Thanks

Cross your fingers and hope the power supply didn't run away and zap the 5-volt computer with 24 Volts.

A radio that's dead on transmit and receive both does raise this possibility.

The computer board for that radio is famous for going bad, and no replacements exist.

Unless you count the 2950 mobile models made between 1995 and 1999. That board has to have the connectors modified to fit the base station, but it's the only source.

Okay thanks for the info.
If worse comes to worse I can drop a 2950 into it.
Grabbed the radio cheap so don' mind trying to get it going

These radios have well known power supply issues. Most people gut out the old power supply and install a newer switching type supply in its place. Provided that the CPU didn't get knocked out, that's the best option to go. Good luck!

Key Cb Shop

Here is a shop in Michigan that does good work. Jim gets busy but does very good work for a reasonable price. He used to be in Warren,IN and has been a factory repair center for Stryker for years. He has worked on a Madison and several Magnum radio's for me.

Hey thanks for the tech information I will give him a shout next week and see what we can figure out.
I only paid $100 for the radio so not all that much out of pocket, I figure I can still put a couple of bucks into it and still have a decent radio.

It says it is a auto repair business is this the same place?
It is about a 3 hour drive from Windsor

Not sure where in Ontario your located but I have had good service at durham radio in Oshawa, they did some work on my 2990DX. as well as my 2510 and AR3500 resonable priced.
