Just made my first DX contact on my new radio. I did the RIT mod and did a lot of alignment but she's working great. These are nice radios. I got a 5/9 signal report from a guy in MN from my 25w on my groundplane. I have to thank Rogerbird for all his help through emails to walk me through working on the radio. |

Announcing a new feature unique to the Worldwide Radio Forum: A new Live DXSpot page including a live map! You can find the new page that shows the map with latest DXSpots fresh from the DXCluster servers, including frequency, spotting station, coments and time of spot at: http://www.worldwidedx.com/dxspot.php
There are also links to the DXSpot Map on the main site homepage and the Navigation Bar underneath the site logo.
There are two limitations on the mapping technology. The first limitation is that to determine where to pin the marker on the map we have to look up the GPS coordinates associated with the callsign. If that individual is on DXPedition, the marker may not match his actual location. However the country listed on the DXSpot table will still show whatever the spotter input. The second limitation is if there is no GPS coordinates associated with the callsign, then we just place a marker on the country listed. However, if the spotter put in a country that Google doesn't recognize, Google guesses for us. Sometimes it guesses wrong. We can overcome this limitation, but we need people to inform us of when... Years ago I started off in electronics with nothing more that a volt meter. Analog at that. I now have a well stock repair shop going with some decent equipment. But took years to accumulate. Back then there was no internet to look stuff up on. No great forums like this one to go on and ask how something works, or where to find a part. Well, at least there were local places to find parts! Everything was trial and error. At least for me.
What I am hoping to do in this thread is share with you some of the tricks of radio repair. And maybe some of the other techs will jump in and add a few things. Reason I am doing this is that I get pm's and emails from cb'rs and new hams everyday asking different things about their radios. Just today I received one from the Netherlands asking about an article I wrote a few years ago on another forum.

12 Replies | | Real-Time Amateur Satellite Tracking Maps | |

We've added a new feature to the site: real-time amateur satellite tracking maps. While there are several great pieces of software and a few sites that offer this functionality, there weren't any that gave you a quick visual overview of where all of the main satellites are. I found myself clicking way too many times to see which satellites were coming into range, so I created a page for the site that shows all of the main satellites at a glance. It also shows the primary use frequencies.
Check it out: http://www.worldwidedx.com/sats.php.
You'll also notice that there is a new "Satellite Maps" link in the navigation bar above, as well as a new "Ham Satellite Maps" link on the homepage in the Site Navigation section. If we're missing any important satellites, or if you spot any errors, please let us know!
Enjoy!
