How does the 757GX measure up to the modern stuff?

Right now, I'm not sure she is working 100%. Part of it is my apartment living, part of it may be radio. Noise blanker, etc, when I push the buttons, I hear no change whatsoever. The preamp works at least, but I think I may need to have it looked at and gone over. So with that, I'm...

How does the 757GX measure up to the modern stuff?

Just getting into HF, and picked up an old yaesu 757gx for cheap online. Just curious how it compares to the newer stuff, whether it be the ft450D, IC718 or IC7200, or kenwood 480? Obviously filtering is improved, but how is rejection, receive, etc?

Kenwood TH-D72 2m/440 APRS HT Review

I just got one of these radios and like it so far. The only hangup I have had, has been the USB com driver. It installed with no issues on my home pc with win7, but the laptop sporting win8, has been a different problem. It doesn't see any drivers in the file you download. Anyone had any luck?

    2 and 440 emergency freq

Simplest solution for the OP if he isn't licensed, get his license as it's pretty easy, and he wouldn't have to worry about it.

    kenwood tm D710A

Yeah, I checked on BestBuy's web page one day and they sell them. Fairly inexpensive actually. I need to invest in one and some cat cable to remote mine.

    2 and 440 emergency freq

There is no emergency calling frequencies that I am aware of on 2m, or 440, on FM. There are national calling frequencies which are simplex and you may catch someone listening. Any of the frequencies can be an emergency frequency really. You'll need to know if there is 15khz or 20khz stepping...

    kenwood tm D710A

Just this last summer, I was on here asking about what dual band I wanted to buy. The V71a, 8800R, and D710 were on my list. I ended up with the D710, and after learning the things that work differently than with yaesu, it has worked great. Big, visible screen, can see name tags and...

    Yaesu FTM-400DR

You and me both. I saw they finally came down in price, at least they are now below the $200 mark. They even dropped the price of the 2820 finally to less absurd levels.

    Yaesu FTM-400DR

If you all remember, Icom wanted a ton of money for their 2300 when it came out, and it was only a 2m rig, nothing special. The companies hype the product for months, ok for yaesu this has been going for a freaking year. They think they have a bunch of kids craving candy, and will ask top...

    Mobile radio decisions

Well I went ahead and picked up the D710. Played with it this weekend inside, before going ahead and mounting it in my jeep. Accomplished the first task, getting a usb to serial adapter to work with the kenwood cable and software. Got some of the stuff figured out on the thing, was able to...

Tips and suggestions for first hf rig

Ok, so I finally upgraded my mobile vhf to a D710. Now a friend from another website and I are assessing what to get for HF. Both of us are licensed generals, with no hf experience. He has a house, I have an apartment. We've brought up the icom 718 and 7200, the yaseu 450(all flavors), 857...

    Mobile radio decisions

I see from searching you went with a v71A from a post a few years ago? I've all but decided kenwood, but unsure if I want to throw down the extra hundred for the 710 or not. If you buy the separation kit, the gap closes between the two models. I also see you're from texas :D . Former Tulsan...

    Mobile radio decisions

Interesting input so far, thanks guys. I'll likely remote it, but how far I don't know. I have my 2900 mounted on the side of the center console, with the knobs interfering with my wife's sitting position often. Thought about mounting the body there with the speaker firing out to be more...

    Mobile radio decisions

Ok here is my dilemma. I currently have an ft2900 in my jeep, and an icom 2100 at home. I'd like to upgrade the mobile rig in the jeep to a dual band/dual receive radio, migrate my 2900 to the house and sell the icom 2100. Currently, I'm looking at the V71A, and the 8800R. I like the option...

Aladdin Shriner's Hamfest Columbus, Ohio August 3rd.

Tried to get my parents to go last year, see if it would get them interested. Dad is a shriner, so it would go hand in hand. Maybe they will this year.
