Get a Galaxy DX-979 from Sparky's CB Shack. It's a mid-sized chassis, has a nice large meter and variable output. It also has the awesome Starlit display. It's rock-steady on SSB after warming-up for 10-minutes. Put an xForce TNT-350HD inline with that radio and you'll talk to anyone you can hear.
... by Randy Travis and actually pretty good.
Verse 1:
Last night I dug your picture out from our old dresser drawer
I set it on the table and I talked to it 'til four
I read some old love letters right up 'til the break of dawn
Yeah I've been sittin' alone diggin' up bones
Verse 2:
Then I...
Anything you replace that K40 with will perform better. Back in the day, the K40 was OK, but there are so many other choices today. It puts the K40 at the bottom of the barrel. Even if you did a simple fiberglass stick swap of your K40 with a Wilson on a Franse (spelling?), you'd be better off.
Mock the past if you'd like, but the world was a much better place "back then". Look at the typical family today vs then and how about the kids of today vs the respectful kids from back in the day. Sure, technology has gotten much better today than back in the day, but at what cost? The way...
Not sure about your model, but on the 300P's, the pre-amp is one whenever the amp is on. It's the biggest flaw of the amp, but modable to add a on/off swith for the pre-amp or to disable alltogther, which is what I did.
If you're looking for opinions, skip the RFX-75 and get a cheap 2-pill amp instead. It will out-perform the RFX-75 setup and will allow the amp to do the work and not the radio.
I have a Uniden PC68-Elite that I've run behind a TNT-350HD, Midnight Special 500 and RM Italy 300P, all at...
In my opinion, there's no need for it. The current 40-channels should be more than enough in any/all areas to carry on a conversation. If you want to talk to your buddy "privately" (which is why many use the illegal 11-meter channels), then pick up the d*mn phone and call them.
Hmmmmm. Not sure what to say here. I have several 979's with both TG modules installed. They don't sound anything like what you have there. You yourself said you're not a tech, so I'm wondering if you've not installed this correctly or have tuned it properly after the install.
BTW, my...
Not sure why they were discontinued, but I love mine. A nice radio. Maybe they stopped making them, so you'd buy the more expensive 2995-DX with the pills.
I'm telling you, it's not doing 60-watts, period. Don't care if Doug or God himself told you that. I won't comment any further on this because it's obvious you're going to believe only what you want to believe. You can't argue the laws of physics.
That radio, since it has the RFX-75 installed, is too much for that amp. You'd want to get yourself a competition amp, as opposed to an off the shelf TS amp. That radio does well with a TNT-600HD.
