The downside to the dipole I would think for me would be the lack of space and availability to get it in the air. Backyards here are small and I only have one tree. It's the desert. That's why I originally went with the a99. I was considering the imax 2000 as it has a higher wattage rating. But...
Thanks guys for all the help. I'm newer to the hobby and have been struggling to find info. I cant complain to much about the a99. Spent 20 bucks on it. I talked to Canada and main this week.

It's not a 3000 watt consistant box. It will swing that high. And that's the reason I dont feel comfortable with having the a99 up there. Sure I'd love to run a massive antenna with less power. But like I said the hoa restricts that. Living in an hoa I have to work with what I can.
Thanks for the reply. I looked at some of the Mr coily antennas. They look real nice. Kinda pricey. .my big issue is it has to be shoved up a tree in my back yard. The hoa really puts a damper on anyone into anything radio... honestly, im surprised I haven't been turned in on the a99. Building...
Ok guys. I've searched and cant seem to come up with a viable solution. Currently I'm running an a99 base antenna. Due to how restrictions I'm stuck with this style antenna. My question is is there a similar antenna that will handle more power say 3000 watts or so? New amp coming and I'm...
I'll be watching this as well. I'm in an hoa in southern Arizona......or solar heaven. Couple companies rolled through a few years ago and conned people into the rent to own units.
Same here. S7 all day long.
Running an a99 switching to a hygain this weekend....
My reference to coax was, rather than move my 220 plug 20ish feet, is it ok to run a 20 ft coax from radio to amp then out to the antenna.
I searched for the answer, but never found a real definite answer on if that was ok.
I've decided to go ahead and run a new line and outlet to my bench...
For me it's about 25ft run from box to my bench. I've got some 6ga wire left over from a hot water heater job I did. I believe that should foot the bill. The amp draw is 20 Amps or so.
Yes it does. I run all lmr400 as well. I'll probably just do it right. I know that in the end i will do it that way anyway. I appreciate all of the feedback on this. Glad to hear it isnt a crazy idea and is working for some guys out there.

I had a feeling thatd be the case. I appreciate your reply. I've got an old 220 cord made up for my welder that will foot the bill for now. Eventually I'll probably run a new line and dedicated outlet. Sometimes I get lazy and in a hurry to hook up new toys. Best to do it right. Thanks!

So I've searched quite a bit and cant seem to find a definitive answer. I've got a new amp on order that is run off of 220v. My radio bench is about 20 ft away from where my 220 plug is. Is a 20 ft run between radio and amp ok? Or is it best to carry the 220 to my bench?
I'm working in a small...
Is the amp up for sale still? If so I'm interested. New to the forum, so not sure if this is how I go about replying to the poster.
