Best 11m/ Export SSB Under $200

Most of your export SSB radios are going to have some drift. They are known for it. An older Grant, 148GTL, 139XLR, etc would be a good choice for stability and clean audio. You can pick them up between $40-$100. Just be careful not to buy one that has been modified to much. My Grant was purchased for $40, I sent it out to be looked over and a proper tune performed. I also added variable power. It cost me about $100 for the work and shipping. It was well worth it. It has better SSB audio than my $450 Galaxy export. Its just something to think about. If you want echo, buy an echo board for $25 and install it. Most of the export that are in the $200-$250 range tend to be the non SSB models. There are only a few SSB exports that I've seen in that $$ range. And the power on those models aren't much higher than a tuned CB.

I was going to recommend a Magnum 257 until I saw how they are almost as much as a 2950. They used to be significantly cheaper than the RCI. You might as well just get the 2950.

T23,

As you can see from all the responses, there isn't too many good 11 / export ssb rigs under $200 that are turly worthy. I've had DX949, DX979, DX959, 2950, 257,with the last two being solid on ssb. I have an Optima now which is way over your limit but is in a league by itself.
If you look at the 257hp, just remember there was a bad batch that came out last fall. If you look at the 2950, I find that they are very sensitive to engine / vehicle noise. The 1 I had I could not rectify the noise to the point I sold the radio for $75.

When you purchase, get it from a good dealer.
