Yaesu Vx-8 & VX-8DR Mars Cap & Freeband Mods

me too! I think it's normal..
I have performed the resistor removal and am trying to do the software version as well. When I reach the step where I power the radio on while pushing HM/RV and Menu, nothing happens and I'm unable to make it to the next step where I choose "Mode ***". Suggestions?

Thanks!

unfortunately, all of the Japanese HAM RADIO model are unmodifiable to transmit out side of Japanese HAM Band, 144-146 , 430-440 MHz. due to their version of FCC regulation. I believe that is true any radio sold in Japan after mid 1990. I have heard, over there too many people modified HAM RADIO and used outside of HAM BAND for business purpose without license. I understand only way to change to US model is to replace CPU.
Are you sure? I checked service manual and it looks the same in terms of hardware.
I wonder if there are people out there who made a Japanese version mod?
and what "cellular blocked" means?

Hi are you still active on the forum? I have a Yaesu VX8-DE. I have a strange problem. The radio won't recognise it's battery. Neither one (1100mA, 1800mA, FB-39). On DC it works normally, when I shut down the radio, it begins charging, after complete, I pull out DC cable, try to start, but does not work. This happened one more time left the radio turned off for one night, in the morning started on battery. But now it won't work.
Do you have any idea what could be the problem. The radio is new, I own it for 2 weeks and I have moded it using your technique. (resistor & soft) It worked flawlesly.
Thank you for reading my message!
Regards,

Attila
I had same problem and couldn't find anything regarding the bettery, anywhere I looked. I noticed it sometimes worked and then powered off on its own every now and then. I took a tiny piece of cigarette pack cardboard and placed it between the two clips and pressed hard to fully lock the clasps with the cardboard pressured between. IT WORKS!! Full time! Good luck!

Well, one week ago i got a STANDARD VX-8D directly from Akihabara, Japan, and i am now at home trying to "open" TX functions, i got no Success with the "software MOD" it just didn't react to the option where you have to choose the MODEXXX, so i thought, well lets open this guy and take that SMD RESISTOR off, Surprise surprise.... after removing the black cover down the battery pack, there was NO RESISTOR at all!! it looks like Factory-MOD, (yes im sure i look on the right spot, Magnifying glass X5 prove my eyes where right) but still no MOD TX Open possible, i start to believe that my VX-8 has in deed different CPU type so no MODs are possible.... besides that, i can't Scan PMS X with particular band limits, like 68-87,5mhz, 170-174 mhz, 460-470mhz or 850-863 mhz its all correctly saved, L2U2 and so on, i can read them on MR location, but once i try to select them with the dial, i can't select those PMS X.

Any idea??

PD Im looking right now at the Operations Manual in Japanesse to try to find any info... google translator working for me of course
