102" ss whip. is it still the best

what about in the case where the antennas run roughly 92" with a massive coil, I believe there is one predator like this seems like it would be the at least be as good, but also makes me wonder why people would spend the extra 60 bucks on one and not just go with a whip

any time you add a coil to an antenna, you decrease it's efficiency.

True,

But has anybody calculated the difference between a 108 whip with a 37 ohm feedpoint which does represent a minor current loss to a 7ft loaded whip that is properly designed for a 52 ohm feedpoint.

Then what about a true capacitance top load over small inductor coil on a 6 to 7 ft antenna?

Are these differences really significant to each other?

FSB, i have addressed those exact ideas in the past, but i will have to admit that i'm going to have to go back and re-read my reference material. It bothers me that i can't remember some of the specifics, but better that then talking derrièrrilly.

yeah I get that just couldn't wrap my head around why some one would go with a 92, but not a 102.........
I agree. I can't wrap my head around the 3 ft antennas. Nothing but compromise - too much really. They usually cannot hold a decent SWR thru 40 ch. Five foot or better will work OK. Talked to Germany from the West Coast on my trusty Wilson 1000 a few years back w/o using power.

KJ5K,

the reason they are willing to spend that money is because someone has convinced them that the 92" antenna with the coil will work better than a 102" whip.

I'm sure you are familiar with the concept of CB snake oil.
