Stupid things seen or heard at a CB shop

went to buy an astatic 636l about 2 years ago, price $95.00 plus tax:confused:

when i asked why he told me astatic had just discontinued them and he had the last few, i told him the t/a 5 miles down the road had them for about $20.00, his answer back to me was... and i will never forget this..

" those are either seconds or copys, i have the only real ones left in the state."

Yeah i have heard that story so many times....
Kinda like when Astatic stopped making the D 104 a few years back. I went to a local (no longer in business) CB shop and the owner was very hastily repricing all of his D 104s he had BOTH new and used and marking them up to almost 75% markup from the original prices!!! I saw him mark up a NIB Silver Eagle from $129.95 to $529.95!!!! he said "You wont ever be able to buy them ever again new OR USED!!!" I said well what about Ebay? He replied; "those are not the original D 10s on there, Mine ARE!!!!" I almost fell over laughing!!!!! Needless to say, he never moved those mics and when he went under he ended up taking them home with him, never selling one of them..:(
 
funny thing is, astatic has never stopped making the 636l. on the same note though i wish they woul come back out with the 575...... oh well.:censored:
 
this guy ran his business from his van he went by wire bender in monroe ohio off of exit 29
he'd say antennas tuned $10 radios tuned $20 he lived in it, a customer had his radio worked on by wire bender had to take it to wayne to have it fixed wire bender is no longer there it's off of exit 59 i think near columbus you can't miss him
a guy asked him if he can peak and tune his wife with no talk back

I only have one shop I can get to on a regular basis. I actually found this site after searching the web for help with my 2510 that he had just messed up for me.

These are a few quotes of his.

"The AMC circuit is forced on manufactures by the FCC to keep your carrier under 4 watts"

"Galaxy radios don't modulate properly with a steel antenna, I won't warranty my work unless you run a Firestick"

"The Ranger 2950? Garbage. No resistors in that radio at all."

"I don't use an oscilloscope because all it will tell you is how your antenna is performing. I sell Firesticks. Perfect on the oscilloscope."

"If you have a problem with bleed over, you shouldn't own a CB. They all bleed over the ham bands."

Before I found this site and started educating myself I let him work on my radios. Now I only go there to buy small items I don't have with me on the road. And to mess with him. I challenge his "knowledge" and he always comes up with something to explain himself.

I'm guessing the same things heard in those shops are the same exact things one would hear when someone who has little to no knowledge about the subject that they're speaking on, opens their mouth.
I hear it all the time. From Channel 1 all the way through the freebandz. I will never weigh in on any subject relating to the Hobby unless I know for sure what I'm saying is proven fact.
I don't weigh in that often as my knowledge is as low on the scale as can possibly be.
But I do know when I hear a fellow chicken Bander spewing the same old misinformation that's been floating around since the beginning of the hobby. 73

Ive also received help here throughout my years of being a member. This is a great site and we have alot a great knowledgable members at your fingertips ;)

I heard this one while inside of a trailer on a truck stop parking lot,"This guy is the greatest CB Engineer in the world bar none." I laughed out loud and they gave me the coldest stare. I thought he really had them buffaloed and could sell them anything he wanted.
All it takes to learn is an open mind. Take it all in and sort out the trash later. This site is great with the sorting process. People that spout gibberish are soon sorted out.

Saw a tech once picking his rear and light a cig right after and after that he changed into his uniform to drive a bus all happened in like 20 mins

a mid florida cb shop,,,, kid wanting a 102 inch whip for his hunting truck,,,, oh yea that 105 dollar big coil antenna measures out the same as a 102 whip,,,,and will transmit twice as far,,,
