I have been running a power supply like this for ten years now trouble free.

I am wanting to get a back up Astron just in case, or run the new one and keep the old as a backup. I was looking at this one below. Are the SS versions ok? What is the difference between the two?

If the 50 amp switching one is just as good and reliable I might go bigger. Thanks for any input on this.

Consider the Mega-Watt if you are looking for a switching type. These are used by many of us on the forum. These truly are hash free, light weight, and inexpensive.

If any nit-picking I could do is the fan noise might be annoying. It's not real loud but it is audible. I have mine down below my desktop on a lower shelf so it isn't a problem there.

I still use my 70 amp Astron for my 400 watt HF amplifier and the Mega-Watt for my radio and other accessories. I used to put it all on the Astron but I was pushing the limit. Now the Astron is running under less stress and the 30 amp Mega-Watt handles the radio and other stuff with ease.

I have the 50 amp switcher.

Works as advertised,.... very slight noise at times.

The POS and NEG connections on the back just plain sucks if you want to attach more than one wire.
I put binding posts on each terminal and solved that issue YMMV

I know what you mean. With my 35M I have a #8 fused line on an Anderson disconnect, 2 standard cb power cords, and one cig lighter plug connected. I soldered all the lines into two copper lugs so it's just one connection to the Astron.

Thanks for all the reply's everyone, I will have to do some thinking on what will best serve me with my setup. Take care.

I bought this gizmo off of Amazon, and it's pretty darned nice. Comes with Anderson power pole "type" connectors, too. Might be an option for your shack.
