Why would anyone send him a new radio and want him to have a poke around inside? I do not have a problem with the guy working on CB's but you have to know your limits. I can not see him doing any wonderful magic to this or even knowing the subtle tuning issues on audio that this radio can benefit from. Most of this radio is surface mount. I have no seen a SMD rework station onhis bench. In fact I have never seen him use flux on anything on his bench either???? Strange right?

I would ask the question why anyone would buy a brand new radio that was that inferior that it takes all that part swapping and resoldering before being able to use it?

My guess all those mods and adjustments just added another $200 to the overall cost of that radio. Wow!

That's strange he once told me he doesn't work on surface mount radios.

A lot of the modern new black box designs have very narrow audio bandwidth and really crappy opamps in them. It only takes a few cap changes and the addition of a cap or two in the and around the opamp to really open them up.Going from -3db down at 3000hz to 4500haz makes a HUGE improvement on air. Adding some filtering to the really poor opamps being used also helps, The little bit that needs to be done is not worth $200. If I had to pay someone else to do it I wold not worry about!

and dont forget spread them coils fee as well

Does this radio clown like any radio????
Yes he does but few of them are modern or made by RCI or in China. Just because he has standards that do not change with the flavor of the month club. Since his income is not dependant on sales of new black box radio's and he does not make a huge chunk of his income off modifying black box radio's he can afford to be honest. In fact, he will even tell you not to send him a radio with a linear hanging off the back of it or built into the radio. That alone prob. eliminates 50% of this site's membership. The problem, of course, is that almost no one on this site can make a living selling FCC type approved CB radios and legitimate ham radios. I do not blame people for that either because I would not want to buy or own a current production CB and the SSB cb radio's that are for sale are again junk!

Mike is very polarizing you either love him or hate him. That said he shares what he knows and encourages people to try something few others do. He takes time to teach!

Nothing is worse than the perpetual salesman that never has anything negative to say about a radio, rifle or car.....LOL Even worse is the person that owns a given thing that has nothing negative to say about it! LOL Too many people on this site have a vested interest in what is being discussed because they make a living selling, repairing or modifying modern junk Chinese made radio's.

I have several export radios and one is the president Lincoln 2 . All of them work very well for me. Because I buy from a shop that has been in business over 40 years... They may be junk to some but they are not to me.
