I am trying to set the high and low dead key on this radio VR13 High, and VR16 Low. VR13 is working. VR16 does nothing. The pot for variable power on the front of the radio does work. I can set VR13 for 8 watts and low power will be 1 watt. Both VR16 and 13 check good.R238 is good and R237 is good. I am using the Galaxy 99 schematic. The radio is a cross between the Galaxy 88 and the Galaxy 99.
Am I safe to think this is something in the wiring from the front panel variable power Pot?

I had one of these back in about 2002.
try some thing for the power adjustments.
set vr16 to the lowest setting it will go. then adjust vr13 for 8 watts.
then turn the knob on the radio to low power and see if vr16 will adjust.
mine when I tried to adjust it with vr16 set for a low key would make the vr13 act weird. try this and see if it helps.

the only thing I did not like about the Voyage I had was no mic gain. I converted the rfgain to the mic control and I was a happy camper with it for almost 2 years. we had a tornado come through in 2003 and it took my pickup and radio with it about 1 mile from where it was parked. that tornado sucked every thing out of the cab and never could find the radio. the tornado even sucked the seats and the top of the dash right out of it.
the pickup looked like it had gone through a baler when we found it. the only way I could tell it was mine was by the tires and rims I had just put on it. only 2 tires and rims were still on it. a friend of mine had his suberban setting right next to my pickup and it was setting by it out in a field and was dirty from the rain and dirt . he was able to drive it off. he ran it through a car wash and it only had one small dent in the left front door. hard to believe just what a tornado can do to a vehicle when hit straight on.

Well Sonoma I tried what you said turned the high power all the way to nothing then try to Justin the low power it's like the low power is totally dead it does nothing at all.

do it just the opposite of what you did. turn low all the way down then adjust high and see if the low will then adjust.

if the VR's are good and the resister to the vr's I do not know what could be wrong with out having the radio in front of me.
jumper the low power vr and see if any thing changes doing that. some parts will not act up until it gets a voltage load on it.. the vr may check good with a ohm meter out of circuit but fail with power to it.

Absolutely no voltage going to vr-16. I checked all associated Parts going to vr-16 unless I'm reading the schematic wrong which could be possible.

I have looked at the 88 and the 99 and both are basically the same other than variable or switched so at a loss also. some one smarter than I am will have to help.

I just read what you said about no voltage to VR16. those go to ground from what I remember and not sure you would read voltage there. check the trace from vr13 to 16 and see if it is open some where along the path. could be a bad solder joint or bad trace. .
this radio has a variable to raise and lower the dead key from what I remember. if so make sure the wire at the control is connected properly to the board also. if it has a plug make sure it is making good connection.

The variable power works but the low setting VR16 is dead. The variable does work but the low setting can not be adjusted.
There is voltage to VR13 and the voltage does vary when adjusting the pot on the front of the radio marked RF Power. I do not see on the schematics or by looking at the traces how VR 13 and VR 16 are connected.

VR16 and VR13 are connected with a resister I think it is r238. it feeds to one leg of VR13. they tie together through the pot on the front of the radio.

R238 is the first resistor I checked unless it's breaking down under voltage. I guess I'll have to try replacing that. But my ohm meter and lcr-meter showed it to be good.

check the trace also. the resister may be good and the trace is broken etc.
maybe some one else will have a idea and chime in.
