a friend gave me a old B-50 MRF455 stinger amp that goes in the speaker slot. just trying to figure out the wiring for this before I start to try to install it. I will not be able to put a picture up until my son comes over this week with his camera phone. I do not have a digital camera.
this amp has 2 relay's in it. a place for 6 wires for the hookup. I have the ground, in and out feed for the RF feeds. there is 2 places some one scratched a + sign on them so figure it has 2 places for power in. not sure if it is for full power on to each spot or not.. both traces go to each individual relay. was thinking maybe one is for a preamp for RX. then I have one purple wire that feeds to a opposite side of one relay that feeds power to the MRF455 final.
I have searched the web and so far have not found this board any where to try to compare it too.
it would have been made in about the later 80's or early 90's before the RM ad203 came out.
I have tried to compare it to the galaxy and ranger final boards before they went to mosfets and no luck
if any one remembers this board and has any suggestion's to the wire hookups it would help me a lot to figure it out.
I have a couple superstar 120 FM and a couple superstar 121 radios I was thinking of trying it in..
I will poet a picture as soon as I can.

no Tallman that is not it. . the one I have is square in size and only a 1 pill unit. the mounting plate is also square and it mounts to all 4 speaker holes. I will be able to get a picture later this week to post. no camera here , my son will bring his.

I have already searched all of cbtricks and nothing found like it. I went through all of the pages of amps and never did find one like this other than the ad-203 from RM but it is a mosfet rig. its hookups are not even close.

I remember something that sounds like what you're describing being out a while back, if I remember right they used the same board as some of the small amps sold under the Palomar name at the time. Maybe a search for pics of Palomar amps might turn up something that looks similar.

I have looked at all the palomar and most others on cbtricks and they are close but I have one wire that is left out on them to hook up. I am beginning to think the purple single wire may go to 8 volt TX to activate the relay. at least that would make since to turn the amp on or off simular to the tx75 etc that adds on to the back of radios. I know what all the other hook ups are just the one wire I am not sure of and do not want to burn it up.
thanks for the info.

PICT0023.JPG lets see if I can upload the 2 pics of the amp. the black hooks on the left side of the board which is ground and the 2 top wires are the feed in and out of the amp and the purple wire hooks on the right side as you can see. the 2 lower left traces both has positive marked on them, one feeds the right relay and the other feeds the left relay.

I do not think that was meant to go in a radio. First the lack of convenient pre-drilled mounting holes. Second you would not turn the transformers on end making them that tall if you wanted to put that inside a radio.

When I lived in Georgia guys would come in every year around hunting season wanting little single transistor amps like the Deer Hunter 100!

there is a mounting plate I removed to take a pic of the bottom. the plate is just like the one that goes on the RM ad-203 stinger amp. this was taken out of a radio that the radio was bad. the guy that gave it to me could not remember how it was hooked up to the radio. he said he did know it had one switch attached to it to turn it on and off.
this is why I was trying to see if any one could remember this board from years ago. I remember seeing one inside a radio I worked on years ago and can not remember how it hooked up due to I was working on a different portion of the radio.
these came out before the ad-203 mosfet boards. I do know that for sure.

I am thinking the purple wire needs to go to a TX voltage to turn the amp on when keyed. could be wrong but the 1st nice day I am going to go out to the garage and see what happens putting 8 volts TX source to the relay. if it clicks I have found the right hookup.
i thought with all the old amp guy's on this forum would have remembered this stinger amp. I can not find any thing about this amp since it was basically before most web site's.
looking at the board set up looks as if the left relay is a pre-amp section. the right relay should be the TX portion. that is the side the purple wire hooks to.
