    ICom T7H ?...

If it's an older Icom with all the toys, go for it if the price is within your budget. I have several older Icom's that are still going strong, and really, are some of my favorites. Don't discount them because they're older. They are some of the best buys out there. --Luke

    Garmin Rhino

Anyone have experience with this GPS FRS/GMRS unit? I'm in need of a new GPS and this one is appealling from the radio side of things. I know all the standard FRS/GMRS shortcomings apply, but it still seems neat. I normally have my VX-8R with me, so I don't really need another radio, but...

    Icom ID-51A Review: VHF/UHF D-Star Handi-Talkie with GPS

Mol, What about mapping? Can this do tracking, backtracking, etc.? Waypoints? I'm thinking more like the Garmin Rhino sort of thing, by 2 meter. I'd buy one straight away. --Luke

    Icom ID-51A Review: VHF/UHF D-Star Handi-Talkie with GPS

Mol, How's the GPS working out? I've been waiting for a HT with a good, useable GPS interface more like the stand alone units. We're getting close, I think, to having that. --Luke

Mirage B-320-G 2 Meter Amplifier Review

Very cool, Mol. I'm looking forward to seeing how this pans out as a mobile amp for an HT. That's exactly what I'm looking to do with my off road truck.

    Lesson needed, TX modes

Ahhh.... That's what I was doing wrong. I had the Tone SQL off. I fixed it and got into the repeater no problem. Thanks, Mol.

    Lesson needed, TX modes

OK guys, I've thus far managed to bumble along and get things mostly right, but lately I've been having some troubles. I reset my VX-8, older model, after some battery problems. Now it's back up and running, but I can't seem to hit a repeater that was super-easy to get into before. This...

    VX-8R, something's amiss....

Excellent thoughts, gents. I'll make sure the tone is actively transmitting. I doubt it got knocked around hard enough in elk season to damage it. The radio spent most of it's time in my backpack. Although temps were single digits, it stayed dry and was handled pretty carefully. If...

    VX-8R, something's amiss....

So, I think I've done something wrong but I can't figure out what.... I have an older Yaesu VX-8R. One of the original ones, and I've really enjoyed it. I have the external mic and GPS, and use APRS, especially while in the CO back country. Problem is, I've managed to do something to...

    Yaesu FT-857D FT-897D 857 897 Frequency modification expansion

Cracked open my 897D to check this out, and boy are those things tiny! So to verify with my stupidity, after the mod, the radio should TX on CB frequencies, correct? It seems that way, but I want to double check. Just for emergency use, but it would be handy to have in the event it was...

    Solar charger for VX-8DR

I've been trying to get set up like this as well. USB charging options are slim and hard to come by, and get figured out. Hope to see some great solutions, I'd like them as well.

    Yaesu VX-8GR Announced

Yup, at that price, my plain VX-8R is looking good. It's going strong and does all I ask it to.

My experience of using the Yaesu VX-8r as a mobile

That looks like a sturdy mount, and wouldn't be too difficult to make. My MillerMatic wire welder and scrap steel might find themselves at work on something similar soon. Good idea.

    Changing call tone on VX-8R

Maybe try to make contact with a regular user of that repeater off another machine. They might know if something's changed with the repeaters required tone/offset/shift direction.

    USB HT charges?

Anyone know of a USB charger that'll charge the VX8R? Aftermarket is fine. I'm trying to charge the HT off a small solar pack that will travel with me to provide power away from normal sources.
