I ended up getting the antenna about 30feet in the air with the ladder line coming straight down... its pointed NE-SW... we'll see how it does.
I actually don't have a band preference - this would be my first HF antenna... should I have a preference?
It will be horizontal... I'm trying to find out if putting it north-south or east-west or any other variation would matter... I know its not omnidirectional so it must matter somewhat, no?
I plan on putting up my G5RV antenna tomorrow and I was wondering if there was an opinion to which direction it should be hung?
I'm in Houston, TX so I'm about a bit south but otherwise in the middle of the US...
I was going to hang it North-South... but now I'm wondering if it should be...
Just the firmware is different - so you can field-upgrade any R to an AR... the only hardware difference is that AR comes with a different/improved mount for the head.
I spent hours trying to get any version to update on my 350... v1.1... then v1.2... it would continually time-out and not start using an RT Sys cable.
So as a last ditch attempt, I tried a different laptop and BOOM it finally worked!
Just sharing in case someone else has an issue with it. :)
I got my letter mid July and got my radio back the first part of August
I'm surprised it took so long for you guys to get your notices - I wonder if they're doing a lot of them?
I have one as well... but I have to say that the UI isn't as good as the one on my 2m Puxing PX888d
But for the price, its not worth complaining about. :D
I own one.
I also own a PX-888D as well.
While the KG-UVD1P is indeed dual-band, I find the UI to be terrible. The PX-888D is much better.
But there's nothing technically wrong with the UVD1P - it works fine, and sounds fine... great deal for a radio.
The one thing I do find annoying...
Does anyone know who I'm supposed to contact and where I'm supposed to send my 350 for the firmware update before I go ahead and permanently mount it in my truck?
So the questions are:
will there be a general release update on this?
do we all have to prove that our radio is acting up before they apply this patch?
will this update be field update-able?
I bought a CT-131 adapter to convert the 7pin plug to a 3.5mm phono plug so I can get a wire bud headset.
Which wire bud headset will work with the CT-131? I found two:
VC-27
MH-37A4B
They seem identical but only work with a subset of yaesu HT's...
Anyone know the right one for the VX-8R...
I have the GPS unit... and yes you can either use the mic or the mount for the GPS either is fine.
However, you do not need a GPS unit at all for the APRS functions - they work fine without the GPS unit. The only thing the GPS unit will do is automatically update the...
I had no problem removing the resistor with the PCB still in the radio... it was quick, touch the resistor with the soldering iron and it came right off.
Good luck! :D
