In all honesty due to the declining state of SWL & SW broadcasting I'd say that the radio that you own now will serve you for a long time yet to come.
If it were me I'd spend my money just as you've done.....a better antenna. After all no radio can be any better than the antenna that feeds it...
Not to discount what you say but it's hard for many today to afford a good tower. I know , in my case, it took me 20 years to free up enough money for a good stand alone tower to get my antenna off my roof.
At 12 ft you will need guy wires! :scared:
As to cable interfering with the signal.... only if they are directly in the signal path. Just don't hook'em to the antenna itself ( :w00t: ) and you'll be ok. Use your geometry to get the angle right, roof to antenna MAST!
I have only one comment to make that I'm sure will help you long term.
Whenever you use a roof tripod overkill on the size of tripod is good since the larger tripod spreads the twisting/side loads that tripod will push against out over a larger foot print on the roof. Makes the whole antenna...
I, too, don't like heights so when I put up my tripod/pipe for the antenna I set the tripod dead straddle of the ridge of the roof. Using 9/16 lag screws and a large washer I screwed the tripod to the roof closing with silicon caulk over the screw heads to seal.
I wondered if I needed to guy...
WHOA!!!!! That mount you're looking at will not be strong enough to support a long (or larger than the photo antenna) in any sort of wind. Better to get a tripod mount then get either a mast or a galvanized 1 1/2>2" water pipe (NO joint so the max is 10' ) That is what I used for 20 years until...
For CB radio use the height limit is 60 ft. so go with that to be safe.
Here is a link that will give you all sorts of good info..........

As to a pole to mount your antenna...........
You don't need just a pole you need a proper antenna MAST. Anything less...
Wow! From the response I'm getting here and on other radio boards this antenna is universally panned as not worth the effort to hang.
From the sales text the claim that it doesn't need a tuner is why I wondered. If I can save the cost of a tuner and get a turn key antenna, well, what would...
Does anyone have any info on the Radiomaster PA-30 (also sold as NASA PA-30) wire antenna?
This antenna is manufactured in Holland by RF systems but that about all the info I can find. it would be nice to find some user reviews but the I can find none on the web.
Please help!!!!!!!!!
There is not one darn thing wrong with refurbs as long as they come with warranty. In fact I'll buy a refurb before I buy new if a refurb is available since a refurb has all the bugs worked out already while their price makes my money go further.
If you like a 102" whip then stay with a 102" whip since no one will dispute that a 102" whip is the BEST antenna ever for CB use.
If you still insist on going shorter then a Wilson 1000 mag mount in the center of your cab roof will be closest to a 102" whip.
Mounting a shorter antenna...
For cost reasons alone I'd like to use a Wilson 1000 mag mount as BOTH a base and mobil antenna. My goal is to install the Wilson on my Suburban when we take trips 4 or 5 times a year then leave it on a post (with a steel plate) outside the rest of the year as a base antenna.
That brings me...
