Do you have an attic? Search for attic mounted antennas. Most are used for V/Uhf but some have had good luck with HF. Also alot of info online about stealth antennas. Wires under gutters, flagpoles, etc. I hung a 10M dipole in my sunroom and made contact to FL. Have also used 2M halo indoors...

I remember when R/S discontinued the DX-160. It was in 1979 or 1980 maybe. $99.95 or something. I wanted to mount one in my '77 toyota landcruiser. I passed up many at hamfests in the '80's. I finally bought one about 10 years ago. Not nearly as nice as the ones I passed up. Such a great looker.
The Dakota Alert base is made as the in house receiver for their long range driveway alert. But it makes a nice little base radio also. I've got one. It's not bad.
The marine and murs should have about the same range, both being vhf. I think the FCC made a mistake doing away with the marine lic. How many 4x4 pickups have you seen sporting base loaded shakspeare whips? Hmm, wander what their using those for?
