I am erecting a ½ wave dipole for 11 meters. I am curious as to what height off the ground will offer optimum performance? I have a 140ft long dipole for 70cm - 160 meters amateur radio and the optimal height was over 100 feet up in the air between two trees on opposite sides of my property...
Looking for a suggestion for a base antenna. I live in the mountains of New Hampshire... lots of snow and ice... frequent winds... needs to be able to take a wallop. Not running an amp. Primarily for DXing on 38lsb.
We have 3 very active sideband groups in this area. Wednesday nights the 9 America SSB group has a radio net on 36lsb and on Thursday nights it’s the New Hampshire SSB Club. There are a lot of Americans Eagle SSB Club members in the area as well.
Magnum 1012 walkie talkie. It does 7 watts on SSB and I talk DX around the world with it using a ⅛ wave bnc telescopic antenna that A ham radio operator in the UK made for me.
There hasn’t been any DXing going on up here in the White Mountains of New Hampshire for multiple weeks. I hang out at a location where I am 6300 feet up and still nothing. Plenty of locals to chat with, but no DX.
I was just talking to a guy 60+ miles from here in Maine while using a walkie talkie. I’m using my Magnum 1012. I will go to 37lsb for a few if you’re on the frequency.
Magnum,
I have found that the majority of people who join clubs still use their own three or four digit number that they gave themselves and typically only use club call signs when they hear others out there. I have a unique DXing location atop mount washington which is nearly 6300 feet up. When...

I did receive your second sign up message yesterday and I tried to resend the confirmation email that I sent last Thursday. If you didn’t get it please let me know so I can take it up with the hosting company...
I will get the website updated and get you on the roster after work tonight... sometime around midnight eastern time. Thanks for joining. You are the 40th person to sign up in the past few days.
I processed 29 new members yesterday. I will be updating the website approximately midnight tonight eastern time when I get home from work. I have at least 8 more new members to process tonight. Some of the members have been sharing our Facebook posts and it is helping to drive new membership.
I last posted about the American Eagle SSB CBers Club in 2006. In the past 12 years we have added approximately 800 new members, approximately 250 of that has been in the past 18 months. If you DX on 38LSB you may have heard members of the group on the frequency using an American Eagle call...
Most of them are just ghost talking... they aren’t talking to anyone. They are all about “getting heard” and not having conversations. They mimics conversations with others attempting to be heard above all of the noise.
I use a 108” whip on 11 meters (not a 102” whip with a 6” spring,) I have found that the 108” whip noticeably out performs a 102” whip with a spring. I have attached a pic of my 108” whip. The 108” whip isn’t known to the masses. Most operators go with a 102” whip with a spring as many aren’t...
I do have a radio capable of 175 watts but I had a switched installed on it that allows me to turn off the amp. I rarely use the radio with the amp on. I find that I don’t need it. I only really use it if I am asking for local road reports on 19 and the frequency is hopping with skip. Most of...
