Fantastic write-up. Just started using this as an upgrade from my ID-51...very pleased. Using it mostly with an RF Shark OpenSpot...one at home and one in mobile with a Verizon 4G hotspot and a VONETS VAR11N-300 Mini Multi-Functional Wireless Portable Wifi Router/ Wifi Bridge/ Wifi Repeater for...
I've had one of the new Yaesu FT2DR Handhelds here for about a week. I've not had a QSO with anyone in digital mode yet...We have a repeater very near me apparently installed by a club I used to belong to:
445.6750 -5 MHz 131.8 Paoli, Hospital Chester WB3JOE OPEN
I have called out on there...

Looks like they have put repeaters in a lot of places. I have a new FT2-DR inbound from AES and am looking forward to trying it (as well as to having a large screen/touchscreen handheld to easily configure and input freqs on the run.
Icom ID-5100 Pricing Round 3
Update- received another call from HRO today asking if I'd 'like' to convert my pre-order to a paid order. I asked if this was under threat of them increasing the price at which I 'pre-ordered' it from $749 to $849?
After conferring with someone I was told that the...
Icom 5100 Price
HRO offered to take pre-orders on the 5100 in March '14 and you had to pay $35 to pre-order at a price of $749. I did pre-order and they called me yesterday to say they should be in soon. I said "Great"...then I was told 'the coupon' will be expiring at the end of the month...
Bracket
Thanks for your reply, although you can probably see that this got resolved back in June when the dealer replaced the faulty CT-136.
As for removing the bracket, I just think there would be too much strain and potential for breakage on dropping the VX-8DR w/o the bracket- apparently...
Try A0-5
I don't think it's that we want to inhibit the APRS transmit, it's that we don't want the incoming audio on the band to be muted right? When my radio Xmits an APRS beacon, it interrupts the incoming signal from a QSO in progress on the other side of the radio like you say above. It's...
350 APRS
I think that's normal behavior. I have the left side set for APRS, but I believe when the set beacons that RX audio on the other band is briefly interrupted. I'll check tomorrow in the car, but it's been no big deal for (I think).
FTM-350
Hi George. Congrats on the rig. I mounted mine with a Lido mount from HRO that bolted to the floor rail of the passenger seat.
I think we all wish the rig had memory banks like the VX-8DR e.g., but in the meantime, I have all the repeaters I use stored on the right side and a few...
Phones
You're probably doing better than I am...I looked for instructions online to change the foam on that Heil Proset...nothing. So I gave it a go...tought to do...almost had it...and SNAP I broke off the left earpiece from it's gimbal mount. Bummer. Oh well- they have a service called...
W1MED, Craig, and I are meeting up at the Boxboro Hamfest and ARRL New England Convention this weekend at the Holiday Inn in Boxboro. Anyone else going to be there? I expect to be onsite from 0730 to 1100 roughly.
Drop me a line if you'll be there.

Drip Loop
Yes, just as Mole said....this can be done with a wire tie for example where you just make an overhand loop in a line and and zip tie it on itself. The lower part of the loop forces any water to drip off before entering a more sensitive area. You'll see this for example where a coax...
Ruggedizing
As someone who had a Kenwood TM-733 dual-band rig professionally installed as a remote in a car a few years ago and then had water damage - not to that rig, but to the car's navigation system from an antenna lead that didn't have a proper drip loop where it passed over a trunk lid...
Confirmed
I see posts in the HRD Yahoo group on this including this one:

RE: [ham-radio-deluxe] QRZ
Around 11PM EST a router at the data center in Phoenix (which supports our
server rack) failed. It took some time for the technicians to locate the
issue, replace and...
I use QRZ a lot from within HRD and I'm certainly familiar with those "Service limit exceeded; Try your lookup again later" messages. But it seems to me that their whole website is unreachable just now...anybody else seeing that?
FT-897 Ant Tuner Power
I have an FT-897d with the LDG AT-200Pro. The tuner, in my case, is powered by tapping the harness to the 897 from the internal power supply installed in the rig. My menu # 20 is set to CAT. All works great.
GPS I/F
Kai- I'll have the leave the NMEA specs for someone who knows more about them than I do. You might consider calling Yaesu in Europe or in the US and just asking.
Good luck.
