Sure, I have been scolded already for putting a vertical atop the tower. So everyone says that I need ground radials. My next question is if I bring the antenna down and mount it against the side of the tower and run ground radials, will the tower affect the performance? Ben

Inaccurate That charger does not work at all for the VX-8R. The MaH is not enough to charge the battery...it does not even bring up the charging screen in full sunlight at 12v. DO NOT buy this solar charger if you are trying to charge the VX-8R.

I saw the one on the VX-8. It was very informative as far as what the acknowledgements are and how they work. Only thing was the screen of the radio was hard to see. However, you did a great job narrating what you were doing so following along was a breeze.
