    Drew’s CB Radio Tapes

Wow, those were the days eh? Talk about nostalgia.... Nice find 194!

    DX959 - Unknown/understood mod

This wouldn't happen to be a "Factory Reconditioned" model would it? If SO, I wouldn't change a thing... I've seen Galaxy do some really weird stuff to their Factory Recons that I couldn't figure out via the schematics or factory service manuals. If it is NOT a factory recon, then yes, by...

Weird Cobra 29 LTD WX Classic Problem

Huh.... apparently I wasn't the ONLY person experiencing this weird phenomenon: http://www.worldwidedx.com/general-cb-services-discussion/59883-cobra-29-weird-power-issue.html I was able to pretty much fix mine by changing out the value of a couple of filter caps down from 1000 uF to 470 uF...

Weird Cobra 29 LTD WX Classic Problem

I WISH I knew Robb. Very strange. The 25 LTD WX is actually WORSE than the 29 LTD WX, as far as the "pop" sound from the speaker; it seems to happen much more frequently on the 25 LTD WX than it does on the 29 LTD WX.

    Galaxy DX 959 SSB

I'm guessing: 2SB754 or 2SB827 regulator? OR, upgraded 2SB817 regulator? If it's the former, change to a 2SB817, if it's the latter.... could be anything. Sounds like the regulator getting too hot at 16W SSB PEP, and the hotter it gets, the less output power it develops because the less...

Weird Cobra 29 LTD WX Classic Problem

Nope, it ain't a power supply issue, because it does the SAME thing on both radios (eventually) once the ANTENNA is reconnected. I don't think it's the VCO "locking vs. unlocking" thing, as it ALSO occurs when monitoring weather channels. I wonder if it's the TA7222's????? Any more...

Weird Cobra 29 LTD WX Classic Problem

Yep, on/off switches are GOOD. 359, you might be onto something there, with my Astron RS-20A charging/discharging the isolation caps, as I test-switched the two affected Cobras to a Pyramid P.S. and did NOT experience the phenomenon at all. One thing I DID notice about these two radios...

    New channel LED install

Hmmmm.... I've done LOTSA CH LED's, some easy, some P.I.T.A. (like the small chassis radios), and I've never changed the resistors. However, I HAVE changed LED's and found the SAME segments out, only later to find that the resistor bank was BAD, and that's what was causing the segments to be...

Weird Cobra 29 LTD WX Classic Problem

I've got two older (Taiwan) Cobra LTD WX Classics, one of them is a 29 LTD and the other is a 25 LTD. I have a weird problem going on with BOTH of them, and that is: When each of the radios is switched OFF, yet connected to a CONSTANT 13.8 VDC source, from time to time, occasionally, the...

    Considering getting into CB

AM only: virtually ANY CB radio would do for a beginner. SSB is a totally different story. At present, right out of the box AM/SSB for a beginner, really the ONLY one I could possibly recommend would be: Uniden Bearcat BC980SSB. Yes, the output power might be somewhat down, however...

Cobra 29 LTD ST Help Needed

FOUND IT..... It was a bad D12 (1N60 germanium diode.) Go figure. Works PERFECT now.

Cobra 29 LTD ST Help Needed

Hey guys... hope you all are staying warm in this bitter cold. (Where's all that "global warming" they promised us?) lol;) Anyway, I've got a Cobra 29 LTD ST (SoundTracker) with an interesting problem: The S/RF meter seems to work fine on RX but on TX, it doesn't register RF or CAL, it...

galaxy dx 949 dual final mod biasing ?????

Don't know the precise gate voltages for MOSFET's, but with a Beta Matched Pair of 2SC1969 finals in a DX-949 or DX-959, a good starting point for bias adjustments would be: 25 mA for the driver transistor and 50 mA for the Finals.

Will an antron 99 Roof Mounted get 41 Miles???

Old school R.O.T. - Rule of Thumb for distance to the radio horizon (note: many newer VHF/UHF calculators use a slightly DIFFERENT calculator, mainly I suppose because they are strictly VHF/UHF) is: 1.415 X the Square Root of the FEEDPOINT height AGL (Above Ground Level) of the antenna =...

Should I do it to my Radio.

Yes, that is so that they may be proffered, mass produced & sold, or offered AS "Amateur Radios" in the United States w/o getting on the "banned" list (like the 'Export' radios are.) Even still, there is NOT a "Label" of Part 97 Certification attached to these radios in the same manner as there...

    AM and SSB at night...

We recently experienced a particularly strong solar flare that resulted in a geomagnetic storm which pretty much 'broke' the upper HF frequencies of about 15-30 MHz or so. This occurred on the heels of some pretty decent daytime 10-12 meter propagation, even from the mobile. This may be the...

Should I do it to my Radio.

I hate to break it to ya, BUT.... there is no such thing as a "Type Accepted" Ham Transmitter, aside from FCC Part 15 (no harmful interference), and/or spectral purity of emissions. Therefore, modding an Amateur Transceiver to get on 60M, or any of the WARC bands, is not only LEGAL in ALL...

Should I do it to my Radio.

I think the utility of HAVING the frequency agility capability far outweighs any perceived notions that it would somehow decrease the resale value of the radio. I can also conceive of dire situations wherein you might actually NEED the extra frequencies (i.e.: emergencies, etc.) and it would...

    Cobra 29ltd low meter reading?

Make sure your switch is in the S/RF position, and not either the CAL or the SWR position.
