Turned on the radio, Magnum 45HP and 5/8 antenna..and heard this chat. The signal from Northern Italy was stronger, much stronger than the Australian DX. That is 16 thousand kilometres north west of here.

They retail new for over $500 down here and as it is an older model I bought this one for $120 from a friend. It is used but it works a treat.
I have owned a Magnum S45HP for a couple of years and am very happy with it.
Kind of following the Magnum range now but don't hear much now of what is in the pipe line ...any clues as to what is being offered.

Australia embraced the 27 meg radios but later when UHF was introduced the country then adopted that system which offered very clear audio over the crackly 27meg. Although a clearer signal it didn't have the range of AM/SSB but was assisted with the use of repeater stations.
