Personally, I really like the dx-979.. always get good reports on transmit and has the best receive of any of the radios I currently own as it just seems to filter out a lot of the background noise that the others don't as well as maintaining good audio receive quality. CBtricks.com has a lot of...
Bubble pack radios usually only transmit 0.5 watt on the strictly FRS channels. Some of the Midland bubble packs a reported to transmit in the area of 5 watts on the GMRS channels. Because the bubble pack radios operate on UHF frequencies, it is strictly line of sight- one or two miles at best...
From what I heard on the news, the swell was less than a foot...Hawaii gets tsunamis more often than you think. I was working there in 2011 when they had the tsunami that originated with the Japan earthquake..it amounted to a 6 foot swell on Maui...you only have to evacuate if you are in one of...
They do similar marketing strategy to FRS/GMRS bubble pack radios...and advertise 36 mile range!... people buy them and then find out they're only good for a couple of miles.
I would do as midnight special suggested if you have another radio shack radio available. If not, check the continuity of each of the 5 wires between the end of the plug and inside the microphone. Also check all connections inside the mic (looks to be an old radio and old mic- nothing wrong...
I believe that stock it should swing much more than 5-6 watts...do you have the mic gain set too low (decreases swing)? Are you getting good modulation reports? May possibly need to turn up the modulation pot inside the radio...again,just a thought.
I think he meant that after peak, AM=30 watts, SSB= 15 watts. The Uniden 980 is AM and SSB capable- usually SSB puts out greater wattage than AM on the same radio. Gonna keep my eye on this radio, looks like a winner but I'm gonna wait and see before buying how long the display lasts and the...
I really don't think it's a bad radio, especially for the price. How are you measuring the squeal? If you are using another radio nearby or if you are using talkback the mic may be picking up the sound and causing feedback. You have a decent antenna, a good swr match will help as well. See what...
Suggestions:
1. Get that echo mic squared away...cbradiomagazine did a story with it attached to a 510 and got good results with it....you should be able to as well.
I've used several different power mics with a pro520xl and it doesn't seem to be as fussy as some other CB radios.
2.IF you...
I could only lower the power to about 2.5 watts using the adjustment pot on a Uniden 520 (2011 model) depending on the meter I used...one measured 1.75 watts while the more trusted meter measured 2.5 watts. I have run a radio, kl203p and radar detector simultaneously off of one cigarette...
Would suggest the kl-203p and make sure you have the dead key set low to 1.5-2 watts. You can actually run both off the cigarette lighter plug if you need to without a problem.
Just an observation- from many posts that I've read on here and other website forums I was to believe that "clipping the limiter" would not be good for the uniden 510/520. Well I also read on a website by "screwdriver" from a reputable cb shop, if I read correctly that it was his opinion that it...
Got the Uniden pro520xl- nice radio-when I use it I just use it stock with and amplified mic- I could only turn down the output power to about 2 1/2 watts...wouldn't go any lower using the adjustment pot. There really aren't many adjustment to that radio as Uniden uses a lot of surface mount...
