    Uniden 980 SSB

    My 980 finally arrived last night. After a tune-up AM PEP is a hair over 5 watts and SSB is between 10 and 12 watts (that's with an RF Limited power mic). The meter I used was an old Micronta SWR/power meter. I've only had a chance to solicit three radio checks but all were positive so far...

    I can second that. I've got my "backup" dipole in the attic and the noise level is just horrendous (it's especially bad if you've got asphalt shingles). You might be able to reduce much of the noise using a DSP speaker, like the "Hear It" from GAP. http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/3712...

    HamSphere virtual Ham Radio

    I've played around with Hamsphere and agree that it's very cool. The simulation is amazingly realistic. There's another program called CQ100 that's similar but doesn't have the simulator. An interesting thing about CQ100 is that there APPEARS to be some 10 meter repeaters cross-linked into it...

    You mean the 880? Yeah that is odd. You'd think they'd try to save on production costs by using the same inards, more or less.

    That's what I've been hearing as well. It's only got a single MOSFET though, so it probably won't be a juiced-up powerhouse. Bells CB gave it a tune-up before shipping it out so hopefully the modulation will at least be respectable. We shall see...

    I've been using a 510 in my car for years now. Not bad at all for the money. Power out is only two watts out of the box (at least mine was). Even with the stock mic and a Little Wil mag mount I always seem to get respectable reports. As of tomorrow though it will be my backup rig...that's when...
