What would be the reaction if Hams used 11m legally using their calls.

I use CB and GMRS. As I've commented before, CB down here in the Keys never went through the insanity that crippled it in the big cities. It has served very well as a house to boat communication system that will outperform cell phones. The current GMRS set up - with extensive repeater...

Around 8:45A.M. today I could hear stations in England communicating with stations in New York and Massachussetts on LSB 38 and LSB 40. Not much happening on LSB 16, but I'll be monitoring it on and off throughout the day.

    Navaho TRC-431 ?

I had one of those years ago. It died about 10 years ago. I ran a Johnson desk mic - which I think is pretty much a Turner +2 guts inside a Turner +3 case. No complaints with the radio, but I didn't put any more effort into it after it died.

I made contact with a 421 in Toronto. Looks like my best side for DX was to the north. Considering the mess I heard on LSB 38, I was hoping we'd have a little more activity on LSB 16.

Just barely hearing 898 in Kansas and can hear his QSO with another barely audible station that is in Northern California. Yes, that was me trying to connect with you. There is DX propagation. We just don't seem to have enough stations out there taking advantage of it.

Just had a nice QSO with a London, Ontario, Canada station. The QRM from AM15 and AM 17 seems to have dissipated. I can hear some stations calling DX, but none have signals strong enough to QSO with. Many of you reporting contacts are stations I have been able to communicate with in the past...

It is 82 degrees here. No snow removal to worry about. LSB 38 has been a mess since early this morning. LSB 40, 37 and 36 have also been quite busy. I'm hearing Maine, Nebraska, New Mexico, Maryland, Texas, etc. The skip is hopping! However, I haven't heard any stations on LSB 16. There...

There are some interesting weather systems working their ways across north America today. On top of that, the prediction for Dx propagation on 12-10 meters today is in the "Good" range. It looks like I'm going to have to give the Bearcat 980 and the A99 a chance for their voices to be heard...

    11 meter is very quiet?

Today, New Years Day was feast or famine. At one point, the skip on AM 15 and AM 17 was bleeding over badly onto LSB 16. A half hour later, it would be gone...and so would the skip conditions on LSB 16. LSB 38 was the same - with the addition of the idiot who kept playing the Cars' Moving in...

    FREQUENCY AND TIME FOR CONTACTS

I took the A99 with the FS99 tip down today for annual maintenance. It is back up and I expect to shoot skip on LSB 16, LSB 38 and USB 40 mañana, New Years Day.

    CB channels for FM use

FM is less subject to the electrical interference that can kill your AM and SSB ears. Since I regularly use CB for house to boat communications, FM on CB has allowed for more reliable communications.

Conditions were strange down here this week-end. It was feast or famine and it was unpredictable. We've got another good holiday week-end, so I'm going to propose that we end 2023 with a DX week-end - the last one of the year.

If you had to pick a 40 SSB CB BASE purely on asthetics what would you choose?

Like others, I am loyal to the one I own - a Realistic TRC 490 with a Turner Super Side Kick. It is in my banner. I purchased it in 1981 and it is still alive and kickin' and DXin!

An excellent opportunity to reclaim LSB 16 to its rightful place in the CB SSB world.

There wasn't much skip to be heard down here this past week-end. I heard a few Minnesota stations on LSB 38 yesterday (Sunday) afternoon. Traffic on LSB 39, 37 and 40 was very light. There were a few AM stations on 16. I say we push for a December 23-24 LSB 16 skip week-end.

New LSB 16 Group Coming - Miami, FL area It looks like a GMRS group out of Miami is going to take the plunge into CB as well. The story is that many of their club members started in CB and still have their gear. Their current plans are to designate a local (Miami area) AM channel and see what...

CB here in the Keys was never the mess so many of you in bigger cities describe. I know exactly what you mean because CB just up the road in Miami was a total disaster for the longest time, but I haven't heard much local CB traffic up that way in years. Maybe the time for this effort is...

There is a GMRS radio group based in Miami that is about to launch their CB presence. Lots of the operators are also ham, but there is a push in the group to have a presence on CB because that is where they expect most radio operators to get started. The thinking is that they'll be able to...
