IMO the TNT has improper R.F. bypassing and actually radiates out of the positive lead as well as the bias going negative which causes distortion, splatter, and also IMD. The texas star is just better. You should see about 260 plus watts out of the texas star at 14.2 volts and set your carrier...

Excellent idea for the test bench..but if he doesn't have access to test equipment...might be difficult. I was going to suggest sweeping the rx for freq response and tracing it down that way..but typically this is beyond the scope of the hobbyist.

Great for nostalgia purposes but IMO that's about it. Sweep tube boxes which in itself from a design standpoint wasn't a bad thing when the tubes were cheap. But running that many like that..these things have unacceptable IMD but then again they were purposely built that way to show high "swing"...
