    Alternator may be too small

Didn't say they all were, read closely. However, MOST of them marketed to the CB market *are*. It's not a personal thing here. They are. It is fact, plain and simple.

    TNT 250 vs a TS 250, both/ var power ?.

Ok let's clarify... yes, Texas Star amps with the exception of the ModV are AB biased. I would be more than happy to start a new thread and post a picture of the schematic with the bias circuit circled using photoshop and also put up a spec sheet showing idle current required for AB operation...

Cobra 29 with low/no Rx, Tx OK.

Yes and simple. If you are getting RX audio in the PA mode then it is somewhere in the switching circuit that routes the rx audio basically from one jack to another (pcb gnd actually) also make sure your mic is giving a gnd path as well in rx as well. If I am reading your post correctly and you...

magnum S9 radio VS Ranger RCI 2950

I get this from the schematic and also knowing a lot in the business. If you can read a schematic...it is not hard to figure out. Just because the radio uses different "finals" does notmean the rest of it isn't identical for the most part. They were also changed due to nessesity due to cost and...

    Clarifier Question

I agree with bob and if you don't have at least a couple digits to the right.. ex. - 28.000xx mhz then it is hard to get that close anyways with only a display that goes 28.000x.

Looking at a new Radio for the shack.

That would work too. Just making suggestions so you don't take a step backwards for no reason. I mean even on limited spending which I am sure we can all identify with..let's say you have 200.00 and you get another export. Given time..you double your budget and get something you really can use...

New Sears Slant Face Radio $30?

My advice is to not mess with the AMC or ALC unless you have access to test equipment or know exactly what you're doing...or both. One way if you absolutely have to is to turn up the AMC and for the ALC on SSB turn it wide open then slowly back it down to where it starts to kick in or clamp a...

    CB CB CBDX

Makes sense.... I guess my issue is just that the guy is rude and a loose cannon.

Looking at a new Radio for the shack.

If you already have a 2950dx..why spend more money on something of lesser quality? Your next step up would be a good deal on a nice, used HF rig...what about a nice Icom 706 or 706MKIIG or even an Icom 7000. A Yaesu FT-897D makes a good HF rig too. Plus you can receive just about anything on...

magnum S9 radio VS Ranger RCI 2950

When it comes down to it..the S9 is a copy of the Galaxy 99 which is a copy of ealier radios..all using the same core design. Sure..some added different layouts..top gun modulator nonsense and two wire compressor gimmicks..but all underneath it is the same beast with a little different paintjob...

Looking at a new Radio for the shack.

Why not just get a RCI2950dxn2 or the 2970n2? All of the bugs have been worked out unlike the 8900 and it's more advanced then most exports.

    good conditions of just luck

Sounds about right..there are way too many determining factors though to say it would be like this all the time and too many factors to say it wouldn't be. The other day from my mobile I heard a guy with an accent talking on 10M and was about an S7. Turned out he was in Argentina and we talked...

New Sears Slant Face Radio $30?

Ok radio. Worked on many of these over the years. Nice filters in the front end.. the balanced modulator arrangement for SSB is a nice complimentary as well.

    CB CB CBDX

This guy is an absolute NUTCASE and LID! All I ever heard on 28.425 is his annoying voice calling CQ 10 10 over and over again. I had contacted him on the air and asked why day after day he does this and he said the frequency was in use and to go elsewhere. Also he stated that the frequency was...

Recomend me where to send my rci 2950dx for tune/ repair

If you have a set of ceramic small screwdrivers, or non metallic alignment tools and a good known radio / hf receiver you can set the oscillators and "zero beat" it to get it pretty darned close. Let us know. Also let us know too if the clarifier was locked in or not. If you want to tackle...

    TNT 250 vs a TS 250, both/ var power ?.

North Texas...not to be rude but... you are ABSOLUTELY WRONG here! The texas star is absolutely biased... hence the voltage divider that supplies idle current to the base of the RF power transistors. Most amplifiers use a simple wirewound resistor and a diode to accomplish this. Most are non...

    TNT 250 vs a TS 250, both/ var power ?.

IMO the TNT has improper R.F. bypassing and actually radiates out of the positive lead as well as the bias going negative which causes distortion, splatter, and also IMD. The texas star is just better. You should see about 260 plus watts out of the texas star at 14.2 volts and set your carrier...

magnum S9 radio VS Ranger RCI 2950

Get yourself a 2950dx and you'll love it...several improvements over the older series 2950/2970.

    PC122XL Receive Issue

Excellent idea for the test bench..but if he doesn't have access to test equipment...might be difficult. I was going to suggest sweeping the rx for freq response and tracing it down that way..but typically this is beyond the scope of the hobbyist.

    D&A PDX400 and Phantom

Great for nostalgia purposes but IMO that's about it. Sweep tube boxes which in itself from a design standpoint wasn't a bad thing when the tubes were cheap. But running that many like that..these things have unacceptable IMD but then again they were purposely built that way to show high "swing"...
