http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/227 This is what I use for AM.... 8-10 watts drive/375 watt carrier... 45-50 watts PEP yield 1500 out, with 1,000 watts of headroom ;) ..... Can't go wrong here...

    driving a sb220

I'm with you... SB220 won't take that kind of hammering, let alone the tubes... Whew someones blowing smoke alright. Ain't the kind I'd want. Afterall, to go to the next S-Unit (6 DB Gain) you'd have to go from 1500 watts (Max for SB-220) too 6,000 watts ... So all that damaging hammering is...

Ran into a gentleman in Columbiana,Oh on 75 AM and he sounded great... He had the thing loafing and it was cruisin' to the tune of about 60+ on my meter.. This AL-80A just ain't gonna do what I want that's for sure.. Thanks for the heads up... :)

Lookin' for built pair of 4-1000's..

Due to particular interest on 75 Meter AM am lookin' for a built (well built-not superbowl box) amplifier w/ a pair of 4-1000's or something in the ball park... Step-start switch, excessive grid shut-off etc... something that is well built, not slapped together with minimal effort and sold...

Icom 718- ALC modification for AM possible?

The compressor ram rods it even harder driving it past it's alc limits... 20 watt deadkey w/ modest modulation and an al-1200 seems to sound really good on AM... 'bout as good as it's gonna get...

Icom 718- ALC modification for AM possible?

Yes sir your right about the 'ole 101's,when done up right they work well... I have a DX60 heavily modified and works very well on AM... I guess I wanted something new to dig my fingers into... Have a good week... Guess the Icom is what it is, still a nice little radio for what I paid for...

Icom 718- ALC modification for AM possible?

My my my... It don't have to be no CB there Mr. Clever, Havn't you heard AM on the ham bands before??? Guess if you run them there 'cb's you wouldn't know that now would you?? I've heard some heavily modified solid-state rigs that sound good, One of them being a modified Kenwood radio as your...

Icom 718- ALC modification for AM possible?

I was wondering if anyone could tell me of a ALC modification for allowing the Icom 718 to swing forward with modulation rather than the ALC circuit clipping the power before decent modulation is achieved? I have pulled out the service manual but before clipping/removing any part I thought I...

Yaesu 2100B- What a nice little Amp!

No Doubt Toll_Free... Once you try something with some REAL transmitting tubes... You'll kick that sweep tube collector into the closet, or in my case I sent the junk out the door NO charge to a friend of mine that thought he could make it run better... I would have felt bad selling that piece...

Yaesu 2100B- What a nice little Amp!

Just picked up a MINT Yaesu FT 2100b and man what a little beauty.... Sure blows those sweep tube amps I'd been running right out of the water... I run exclusively AM with this particular Amp since I have had it... Those 572 B's really do a fine job... Much more reliable thus far than the KLV...

RCI 2950DX... Slight Carrier Problem on SSB ,,,,,

Not neccesarily, Not all S-Meters are created equal and the one on my RCI Ranger 6300 is very, very tight.... It was used as a reference point and worked well for what I intended it for... Anyway I agree it is not serious enough and will run it for now.
