Sometimes my galaxy dx959 seems quieter than other times. I can hop on and when i transmit on ssb the needle is very active and alive as i'm speaking, jumping from 12-18 watts.... My voice is clear and booming through the talkback, sounds amazing. If there are conditions I can usually make...
I know what you mean, conditions have been great in the late afternoon and evening lately... Just barefoot with my stock 959 and wilson mag, I'm getting my numbers called every day by new stations, often times on the first or second try.
I don't spend a lot of time on the radio, often times...
I recommended the Uniden 980 to my friend for his first rig based on all the good things i've read about it on here. He ended up getting it along with a wilson 1000 antenna and it seems to be doing the job for him. He gets out.
I don't really hear much anymore, occiasionally hearing calls from europe and australia, not really much in the states. even the AM skip is quiet for me. is the solar cycle over? Nothing like it was in winter. I haven't made a contact in weeks.
my 1000 talks 20+ miles everyday. Not really a surprise coming from a company with a reputation like Wilson. Can't go wrong with one.
the 5000 is only better if you're running high power, i'd say 1500+ watts. I've even heard the newer 5000s are running the exact same rg8 coax as the 1000 mag.
I know a guy in town who bought an electric car, tesla I think it was, years ago before the electric car really caught on in the mainstream market. They are made in the states and he got it new for like 10 or 12k and he lauded that car. He would recite all the math on his savings, I think it...
Learn to live with it I'd say. Static is just a part of AM radio. It ain't going anywhere. There is a certain allure to it if you listen just right.

thats why i won't touch my radio with a screwdriver.. I just wanted to know if turning the pots up would help me get more power out out of my radio and how hard it is to do it right. I keep reading that these radios can Easily do 25-30 watts with minor adjustments.
I won't even let loocals work...
Yeah the background static is always noticeably louder at night for me. It's not antenna system or radio related, I've noticed it on all of my different rigs and antennas... Even if I drive away from the powerlines, it's always there. SSB can be very quiet during the day in terms of background...
ok, that's what i thought. I just read something today that said something like "Many have found that peaking VR14 on the 959 gives them optimal performance." Thanks, glad i didn't mess something up.
No shops here, guess i'm stuck with low power and poor modulation. i never use AM because i'm...
If I just opened up my Galaxy 959 and turned VR14 and VR17 up all of the way, would that successfully "peak" my radio? is that all you gotta do for more watts? what could i expect and how difficult is it without an external power meter?
