CB stuff just not acting right

Alright, this is what i did to the radio today. Turned down the deadkey to, well to be exact, 2.7 watts, and putting out i think 40 watts deadkey. I'm not completely sure about that, so i'll check again tomorrow. I will see about finding a fan for the amp too. As soon as i get enough money for...

I got some fans downstairs i could use, i'll definitely add them on the amp. And 90% of the time i run on AM. I read the stuff in those pictures, and will bookmark this post so i have them. Definitely good info in there. It helped me quite a bit. Thanks for all of that information!

The SWR of 2.0 was without the amp inline. I'll definitely go for the radioshack meter then. I found one on ebay for around $32 i think. Still had box and everything. That frequency counter i wanted to get for lots of other little side projects i got going on, not just for this radio, but it can...

CB stuff just not acting right

for the polite words. 1: im used to being on the receiveing end of harsh words. 2: i talked to Tallman, and he said his business partners wouldn't let him do the trade, because his business partners they told him to drop it. Correct me if im wrong Tallman. 3: i took peoples advice, and turned...

CB stuff just not acting right

This is through the antenna. I'm on a too tight budget, so i can't get all the fancy stuff. But i'll look around. I just simply don't have the dough for the good stuff. Maybe for Christmas.

CB stuff just not acting right

Time to revive this thread again. Figured out the radio thing, and that's all good. But i'm muffled with the kicker on. (I always was) Turned it down to 1/2 a watt, and reports came clear. Only getting 20 watts out. So, 3 watts is muffling me? Someone enlighten me a little.?

CB stuff just not acting right

Alright, well i'll try to find out how much it will be to ship it to you. So this amp you have has preamp? I'm picky about that because i do long distance talking with my Dad. It might be a little bit before i can do that because of how busy i am with school and other things. I have a 12 volt...

Whats the model of that meter? Looks like a neat little meter. Anyways, does the 203 your talking about Tallman have preamp? I might consider it if you'll just give it to me., but i'll have to talk to my Mama about it first to make sure its good with her. On a side note, we have a radio shop...

I'll pass. But thanks for the offer. I just want to figure the backwards swing. I have lowered deadkey with no luck. I'm exhausted as far as things to do. I REALLY don't want to send it out to be fixed.l,

I dont think i would have enough money for shipping. Doesn't the 203 need 10w am input and 20w for ssb to get maximum output from the amp?

Is this repairable or should i just leave it? I can live with it if not. I have the deadkey at 2 watts now. I'm getting another meter from my brother. Para Dynamics PDC5. hopefully it's a better meter. Keeping my Workman though.

is mosfet the little black 3 legged squares? This has a white circular thing soldered on 4 different points. Looks like a advil pill. White and circular. Nothing looks burnt. Oh, the reason i was looking for cracked soldering joints is because my preamp doesnt work correctly until it gets warmer...

CB stuff just not acting right

I don't think it is, i have had the cover off of it and checked for any cold cracked soldering joints because the pre-amp doesn't work correctly unless the amp is physically warm. (Usually above 50 oF and it works properly.) I didn't see anything that was burnt or discolored. But i'll check...

CB stuff just not acting right

But the 203 needs 10 watts input for 100 out. I couldn't ask for it because my christmas money was given to me early so i could get a decent bycicle. Anyways, my Dad told me i might of had the deadkey too high, so i turned DK to about 2 watts. Now when i talk, it doesn't swing backwards nearly...

Lots of trees, hills, bridges in the way of where i talked to. Maine...heavy wooded areas and hills. And i'll have to find out what a sinusoidal wave looks like. I think i've heard of it, but not seen it.

CB stuff just not acting right

I grabbed this KL200P because it was the lowest priced one i could find in the US, and it only needed 4W AM input and 10W SSB input. Thats what got me. But i use it, and i've talked 22 miles with it with my Dad, and when i turned it off, he called me and said he lost me completely. What is the...

CB stuff just not acting right

Now, how do you set the deadkey on the 980? I've heard lots of people talk about the deadkey on the 980 and i can not find out how to set it. I'll definitely get a dummy load then. This radio only puts out 11 watts maximum sideband and between a lousy 1 watt to 5 watts normal talking. And then...

CB stuff just not acting right

I'll remember to take out any inline things and to leave the radio barefoot when tuning. I'll look at some LPF's too. Thanks for the input. :-)

CB stuff just not acting right

My meter is a Workman SWR-3P, SWR and watt combo. I'll grab a dummy load then, and see what i get for readings. Does it have to be 100W? Am i putting it on the business end of the amp or the CB itself? I found a 5W dummy load for only $8 and thought it would be a better buy. Might be a while...

CB stuff just not acting right

So, 50 ohm dummy load is something I should definitely grab then? Is there anything I can do in the meantime? I don't know anyone with an antenna analyzer...:-( . But I'll definitely ask around. :-)
