So from what I'm getting from the article that Big Kahuna gave me is
1. The extra coax I used did NOT play that much difference in the SWR going up. ( I can test that easy. Add barrel splice and the coax and put dummy load at antenna with meter where it's at.)
2. That adding and transmitting...
Thanks for the reply. I'll read the link you posted a little later. It's kinda late and I should be asleep.
But to answer your questions.
The first test I was parked in corner of yard. Cars and house at least 100ft away. No overhead power lines.
Second test everything was the same. I'm lucky...
My SWR goes through the roof in the rain. Let me tell the whole story.
My Connex CX3300HP bit the dust, sending it off to get repaired. In the meantime I was going to use an old uniden 510 and a Texas Star MC250.
Yesterday
So I made a dummy load (50 ohm and 8 watt) and tested the Uniden had 3...
Any one near Christiansburg, VA on May 19th that can test my 2 swr meters. Tell if they are reading correct.
I'll be working in the area and can meet after I'm finished. Around 2:30-3:00 PM.
Or between Christiansburg, VA and Charleston, WV.
Or Bristol, TN today (May 16) or tomorrow May 17.
Or...
OK cool.
Made a dipole sunday for spark-o-matic base station. just a rush job. was 4' foot off ground, horizontal, and inbetween 2 mountians, ends east and west. north only about 30 ft to mt and south was 80 ft. was still able to get about a mile out. didn't think that was too bad. rush job and...
Cool. Thanks for the replys.
I understand that tuning both NEW IDENTICAL antennas at the same time is the best option.
I understand there should only be one meter in use.
If I sub 1 meter for the other it should have close to the same swr reading (accounting for the accuracy of meter(s))
I...
Decided to install dual antennas.
What is the best/easiest way to tune. Read several different methods.
Method 1
Set SWR using 50ohm coax from radio all the way to 1 antenna. Tune to SWR of 1:1. Then adjust 2nd antenna the same way. Then install the Co-phase 75ohm coax to antennas.
Method 2...
Been wanting a new meter ever since I got this POS truck stop special.
I have been told to get a dual needle meter and I like that ideal.
Have also seen a digital that does the same.
Was thinking of the MFJ 822 or the MFJ 845.
OR if anyone has any other suggestions please advise.
If this is in...
That was the reason I asked where it was going to be mounted.
From what I read both sides of the dipole has to be the same length. When adjusting for SWR both sides are trimed the same amount at the same time.
You could use two 3ft firesticks from any truckstop. Connect the top one to the...
It will be a little while before I talk on this thing. Just stuck a little wil on the metal roof.
Got the other half to listen while I went to truck. She heard me and told me to get back in the house. (I'm not hen pecked, I've got got a good hen at home. Ha-ha)
I'm going to try to build a...
Just got this CB today. Price was right $0.00. Was given to my brother. Was then given to me.
Any info would be appreciated. It does transmit and receive.
Thanks in advance.
Just trying not to fry the finals
The current antenna puts the coil about 6 inches or so above the ladder.
I do appreciate that the sirio performer 5000 may be a better antenna than my current one. I just can't be that tall.
If I was going to add an antenna that tall, I'd just mount a 102"...
Thanks for everybody's input and help.
2nd update today...
I've changed the coax from the SWR meter to the antenna. That was no help.
I changed to a new antenna see thumb below
It's a ROADPRO 54 Air Cooled Helical Coil Center Loaded CB Antenna 1000 Watts RP-2500S.
Had to cut about 4 inches...
You guys may want to try one of these.

It's less than 4' long when collapsed. Telescopes to 24' and the metal hook on the end can be...
