A question about a Madison upD858 early unit

I replaced C179 with a 'standard' electrolytic cap.when I first started re-capping it. Thanks everyone for the help. I should start a new conversation for this question but just thought I would throw it out: Question: I no longer have my equipment to align and tune-up radios, I just have stuff...

    You can't get 41-44 on a 858 chip (lol)

I agree, ceramic disc caps are AC blockers and as you say, they rarely fail. I was thinking (since he didn't mention 'replacing' them) I was thinking he probably just jumped them to ground. What is it with the speaker wire he uses to replace any wire he can get to? With the whole bundle all...

    copper braid VS. solder sucker

It seems to me, years ago the wick worked better, If I use wick I will usually melt the solder on all the joints I am going to de-solder first, it seems to work better. I got a kick out of a President Madison (If I remember correctly) he was doing...

The two I was wondering about is on the aluminum 'wall' towards the back of the chassis, and is connected to the main PC board with wires about 5-6 inches long. for some reason I am thinking they were both the same and...

A question about a Madison upD858 early unit

Thanks guys, you remind of the guys when I was younger and into CB's always willing to help! I checked a few other sites that seem to have very young users that just says stuff like "why do you want to run and old radio like that for?" I said "If you have to ask, you are never going to...

A question about a Madison upD858 early unit

I picked up a 858 Madison SSB/AM off fleaBay and the kid that sold it thought the clock was keeping it from starting up because he said when he messed with the clock knobs, it would sometimes come on. I did a little troubleshooting when it came in and found it was the switch that was on the 115...
