    New Ham, Need Help

Update: looking at the kenwood tm-v71A with a ventenna set up. Seems like that could be the trick to get me on the air quickly, this radio also seems to be equipped with a function to use echo link when using a computer in conjunction. Cool feature for me because I have an older family member...

No call yet;( Not even a record of my application. Just a little white paper that says I passed haha. No worries on the antenna! Have been doing some reading and research and I'm being patient about the whole thing, so no problem:) Some of the guys here showed me the Ventenna haha which could be...

That looks really cool! Could be a good way to get me on the air sooner. I can always experiment with other set-ups later on. Looks like I'm on the hunt for something 2/70! Can't thank you guys enough!

Was up on the roof today and found this vent pipe right above my apartment. Basically right above where my station would be. Not sure if this changes much.

Images of the roof are from me standing next to the metal pole. Trees are about 25 ft away and pole is 15ft from corner of the apartment.

Many thanks for the responses and the link to that Hamfest! Probably a bit over an hour away with good traffic. I'll have to check it out if I have that day off of work! I took some more pics of the house. The building is on and east to west street, with the front and back of the building north...

Thanks for your reply firerunner:) I'm not sure I have 130' of runway here haha. I am seeing now the complexities of not having a yard/your own lot to build on. If only I had more space. Now I'm off to watch the video BJ so kindly posted. PS- hit the local flea market today but low turn out so...

As everyone can see not much room other than the roof and that side area shown. In front of the Windows is concrete and a trafficked area because the neighbors are in and out sometimes. It seems I don't have room for a large tower on the ground or anything, but the roof seems promising.

Good morning Vietnam! Lol I know, my puns suck already. Took some pics at first light! They are in the post above this one. Bonus points for anyone who can spot my cat in the photos haha. Anyway that's where I'm at, in the photos you can see a set of windows, the one directly below the peak...

Hey everyone! Hope all is well on your end. I cannot thank everyone enough for being so helpful with all of this. I am definitely on the right track and in good care with you all! Thanks for your reply, sorry I'm at work so may be a little slow to respond. Thanks to another member here I know I will need a power supply, an Antenna, coax obvs, he also suggest an SWR/power meter and patch cables. Doesn't seem too bad but I'm just not sure where exactly to start. When I get...

    New Ham, Need Help

Good morning all! Looks like today is the day I'll be purchasing the 450 hopefully. Can anyone help me with what other essential things I'll need to get myself started? If it's too much to explain I understand and will continue to research myself. Thanks everyone for your kindness and help!

Agreed! I for one have trouble truly understanding the materials discussed unless I actually try to learn the meaning and applications behind them. I have a lot to learn for sure.

    New Ham, Need Help

Hi all! As always thank you very much for the replies you've all be very helpful. I am thinking the 450 is sounding about right. At first glance the antenna projects seem pretty intense, but I suppose with some patience and hands on time it will soften up! I hope it wouldn't be too much to ask...

Yeah perhaps I should try to contact someone more locally over the net or phone. Travelling isn't really a viable option, when I took the test I had to go inside another county to find the nearest one. I'm certain there are hams in the area, I just haven't found any in an official capacity such...

tba- thanks for the list! As i'm typing this now I'm looking out my window and there are several trees between 15-25 feet. Closest tree is the shortest but because of the way it is situated, the tree itself is about 30 feet off the ground. I suppose cable can be ran from inside here to there...
