    Maco base antennas

Your Imax is only a part of the radiator when you use it on 12 15 and 17. The coax shield is doing a lot of the radiating too. Might make some unwanted neighbor friends like that.

Yaesu FT-897 Very low output power

Here's an interesting collection of stuff from a trusted source. It may not help but anyone with one of these radios should have a look: FT897 IDLING CURRENT ADJUSTMENT

    YOUR Opinion On Free-Banding

Free banding makes it very easy for FCC to make an NAL stick.

ready to pull the trigger on a Kenwood TS-440SAT why shouldnt I?

The price is slightly high but I'd rather have a 440 than a new surface mount radio at the same price. The 440 does a lot of things the 430 doesn't. The 430 is a nice radio and has a slightly better ssb filter. The 440 really wakes up with a few changes. If there's no hope that you will...

    look what i found

You can stick a piece of wire in the antenna slot and slope tune the FM repeaters to see if the receiver plays.

To The Average Schmuck Who Thinks He Wants A Tower

Cold galvanizing compound is great stuff for painting an older tower. Much better than primer and paint. It's sacrificial and actually keeps the tower from rusting.

Is this 14V Palomar the highest output FET amp out there?

    DC to DC converter.

To The Average Schmuck Who Thinks He Wants A Tower

Freestanding tower. No guys. Couldn't get a decent signal out without it here. If I lived around good trees it would be different. To each his or her own.

    Which Filter Should I Use....

Take the advice and put a coil BalUn at the stick. That will keep your coax from acting like some of the antenna. Those who tell you no filter on your end will stop your specific problem are correct.

    Sampler question

That design especially works well with lower power levels when the proper mix is used in the core. Needs a footnote to terminate the cable to the measurement device. Otherwise have fun tracking down RF problems and/or weird envelope patterns.

Question for techs about keying a solid state amp with a key line...

Yup. And the reason for this is the relays in the amp are always going to be hot switched when using an R.f. sniffer like CB amps. Ham VHF amps eat relays too because they hot switch.

    gamma match insulating materials

Teflon dielectric aluminum hardline worked for me. The outer aluminum from some 10mm 50 ohm stuff fit right inside the rest of the gamma being built.

CDE Ham II Rotor Turns In One Direction Only?

It's either the limit switch inside the rotor or the contacts in the switch in the control box. The control box is easy to check. I'd try that first. If the problem is in the rotor it's time for a rebuild.

5 and 8 element beam plans.

FWIW I copied Maco's 5 element design a few times after looking around for a long time. One time I used a hairpin match because the antenna was made out of a hacked up tribander with a split driven element.

Eliminating some, not all traps from vertical.

Loading coils don't need to radiate.

    IMAX 2000 AND A DIPO

Is the dipole horizontal? If not how far is it separated from the vertical antenna? Since both are 1:1 SWR they are resistive 50 ohm loads. Parallel them with the T and you land up with 25 ohms and a 2:1 SWR. This load can be transformed to 50 ohms if you need. How will it work...
