    FT270R ordered: Any thoughts?

About 6 hours, and the charger doesn't tell you when they are charged which is a bit of a pain. I usually check the voltage on the display after they've been charging for the 6 hours, if it says 8.2/8.3 volts, then they're good to go. One battery will last me the full day out on the...

    FT270R ordered: Any thoughts?

HI......The 270 is an excellent radio, I have 5 of them that I rotate in use whilst activating summits over here for 'SOTA'. They're very tough radios, near bullet proof front ends and they have superb battery life. Front end rejection is a very important consideration when activating up...

    Other Kenwood HTs

You're welcome!... I have a TH K2 and it's an excellent handie.....A little short on bells and whistles when compared to some models, but it doesn't suffer from breakthrough, it's well made and sturdy, great battery life and does its job well. ATB, Neil.

    Other Kenwood HTs

The TH K4AT is the UHF version of the TH K2 2 meter handheld and is almost identical in appearance....Only the colour of the print on the buttons and the colour of the power switch differ. The TH F5 is also a UHF version of an identical 2 meter set. So, both 'real' but the F5 is made in...

    Nagoya antenna ?

The NA 761 looks interesting, as that will work on 23 cms. The NA 776 is telescopic and isn't very practical for trekking up, or working from mountains, so not for me!

    RadioCraft 3000

Hi folks....I bought a RadioCraft 3000 pro a couple of years ago and was very impressed with the outstanding quality of the meter, circuitry and general construction. As I no longer use H.F., and am unlikely to do so in the future, I decided to sell the meter.....I looked on the web, so as to...

    Nagoya antenna ?

I have a couple of Nagoya 771's......A decent antenna and very nearly as good as my Diamond RH 901S but the Nagoyas are nowhere near the price! They're well made, nicely finished and offer a lot of performance for the money in comparison with standard H/t antennas. One issue to be aware of...

    Highest Gain HT Antenna?

T1 did get a bit silly for a while....At the time, I thought what you said was valid, still is, but that's forums for you! 45?....Whipper snapper!.....I'm 57 this year, but I can still get up them big hills!.......Hope you had a good birthday and not too much of a hangover from the...

    First HT Purchase...

O.K.....Here is the next 2 cents worth! 90% of the time I spend on radio is from the top of various mountains in the U.K. I generally use H/T's...FT 270, Alinco DJ/G7 (for 23 cms), TH7e (th6 in U.S) a Wouxan and an Icom E90 for four meters and sometimes I haul an 817 and slab up as well...

    First HT Purchase...

My 2 Cents worth!...... They're both nice radios, but the Yaesu has a front end like a barn door when compared to the Kenwood, so I moved it on!....I still use the Kenwood. There are 2 Kenwood mics available that I know of, and I have both...The SMC 32 and the SMC 33. The 33 is a nicer...

    Thinking about an HT

I notice that in your original post that you mention the possibility of using the handie whilst snowmobiling. The Wouxans are very good radios, especially at their current price structure (They are even cheap over here in the U.K.!)...But their ability to reject water ingress is not a strong...

Anyone ever use one of these?

It's due to the 'tiger tail' acting as 'the other half' of the rubber duck antenna, as opposed to the chassis of the H/T doing that job without the counterpoise being added......So your 'likely' assumption is correct! My main operating, (about 90%), is from mountain tops in the 'SOTA'...

Anyone ever use one of these?

I've been using the counterpoise for some time now, and another benefit of them, is that if you're using one on the smaller H/T's (Icom E90, TH 7 etc) they run cooler than without the wire! Regards, Ken.
