And for a follow up, the FCC is cutting back staff and offices that focus on questionable type radios and the like concerning amatuer radio. AKA they dont take the laws that they made very seriously anymore.

You'll be able to get out a long way with that set-up. I had a simular set-up on my car with a Wilson 5000 and same radio and amp and I would talk to a couple guys on my way out of town. On sideband I could get 60 miles down the road before I started to fade.

Old topic but there is a guy around where I live who gets on the radio alot and says " I'm gonna make a mudduck mad in the corner - in the corner - 50 watt dead key and I'm swingin yeah I'm swingin rite there 1kw in the corner, in the corner, yeah I just cooked me some mudducks" it's kinda funny.

If you find out any info about the wiring let me know. I have the same radio and it is very picky about mics. I have even tried a couple Johnson mics and no luck. The only mic I have found that works on the messenger 250 is the stock brown Johnson hand mic.

I always thought that guy was a bit of a salesman. Every item copper sells is given a big thumbs up by that tech. When I read a review there on the silver salute being easily as good as a d104 I had to really reconsider.
