I can talk on ssb with an AM'er real close. Rojer beeps and all....It's called a notch filter, An IF shift, And if all fails - an RIT. Really pisses the AM boyz off. We can dial 'em out! I don't know what everyone else is running but I'm covered on 25 yr old technology. I can't imagine having a...
Yep. If that little fan is loud - "Houston, we have a problem" . Mine ain't. (Hint: we call PB blaster "Monkey Piss"). In the nicest way, btw. Good stuff. You can also drill the sealed bearings with a 1/16" drill bit and lube them with something like 3-in-1 oil. Works more better gooder.
I don't know about front end overload. When I put up 30' of wire I have "back end underload". - I use 300' +/- of varying gauges of copper wire. (Google "beverage antenna"). I feed it to my Kenwood TS-430s in the aux ant input and it switches between the bev and whatever transmit ant I'm using...
I've rebuilt three of the T-bolt 305's. Fan is 120 volts. Same fan as used in a common refrigerator to move the air from the freezer to the refrigerator section! About $30 bucks new or do like I do and find a junker refrig. :thumbup1:
I enjoy 6 also. No probs ever there. I got my first OO card on 2 during a temperature inversion. I was working an op in Fla. from northern SC.:lol:
I was on 10 really late one night and two really backwoods types were in a qso. An op broke in and he was camping on a island near...
Mine was KSD-9605. Had a Johnson black face 10 channel for base - into an Elkin 2 tube mobile box. Truck batterys on the ground outside my bedroom w/big old battery charger all under a lean-to feeding the Elkin. Elkin was driving a Galaxy ham amp (remember the old Galaxy 5 series?) that took at...
I normally would not post on a subject like this but my first experience w/KFM occured many years ago. We were testing/tuning a home-built 20 mtr transmitter (well away from KFM's domain, BTW). We had been id'ing every 10 and were about ready to call it one when he BLASTED in, demanding to know...
Just letting every one know........Merry Christmas!! From Rumrunnner, in the woods, by the swamp, near the river......From the Low country....Ol' Rumrunner...."Yeah, I'm the one":D
I run an old, restored Hammarlund HQ-129X for my primary HF reciever. It is sensitive. (It has been modded greatly. Even has an outboard product detector for SSB). It is REALLY sensitive to line noise/interference. My sister - (bless her heart) - is a Microbiologist at a local hospital and when...
I have a little edge. My operating position is directly behind the breaker panel. So far I gotta 50 amp outlet and a 30 amp. (So far)....I used 110V on my SB-220 until I put my Fluke meter in line with the A/C and saw the voltage sag using the old house wiring. Now when I get something put...
I've had a marine transceiver monkey on my back for a while also. Did some research a couple of years ago on these. One thing I remember is look for the later models with the solid-state hv supply- (no vibrator). So that cures that headache. Still tube-type just no plug-in vibrator. If you get a...
Much good info. Thankx, guys. I had always figured on the W4ZT board. It is a well designed time tested unit. I am still researching and looking at other's builds with the yc156. WV7U (thx for the link) has got a lot of info. If you have a chance, take a look at his build with the '156. Awesome...
Been looking at toobs for my maul project and the yc156 kinda gives me wood. Its rated at 5kw but is a 15kw tube w/5kw cooler. (I'm told) They are available online used/tested less than $400. (I may have two available if the doofus ever makes up his mind to make the trade with me). The tube...
I know this is late - but the 6L6 transmitter is the same as the 50L6 except for the filament voltage. Do a google for "6L6 Transmitter". 50L6 = 50 volts filament voltage. The 50L6 is a beam power amplifier. I'm gonna watch the homebrew section jest so we can :bdh: do it the old way. I like the...
Linearone - I've got the huge choke that was in the B/C transmitter the other iron came from. I've also got a couple of massive variac's. One was used in the plate supply if I remember correctly. We might figger sumthin out yet!
I agree - mobile tube amps are "interesting". BUT - I know a guy that runs dynamotors (1950's) and runs a broadcast-quality mobile on AM. He runs old aircraft dynamotors that are fed with 24 volts (rated at 28 volts). They produce the plate voltage and current. He also runs a Johnson Ranger...
YC-156?
How 'bout a Yc-156? (the medical/MRI tube?) Can gettum el-cheapo. Could this be the one? I can work with the HV supply as far as access to a little more iron.....
