I just got a 10m transceiver and noticed on EBay several 10m dipole kits for less than $20 and that includes the center connection with SO239, wire for 1/2 wave, and insulators..

If using RG58 or LMR240 coax to feed it, (both 50 ohm), do I need a balun??

It appears as though I would be at 50 ohms to match..

It will work without one but some form of a common mode choke is still a good idea. Feedline radiation will skew the pattern.

You may already have everything you need laying around the house to build the antenna. Insulators are usually not needed if you use rope to the off the ends.

Roll your own if you can.
pvc pipe for insulators on the ends of the legs
Center any old piece of 1x4 wood works well
wrap an rf choke at the feed point or purchase a 1:1 current balun.
Hell of a lot less expensive than buying one
$20 buys a lot of wire.
you could make a few different antennas for the bands
but most of all have fun and enjoy the hobby
