#57 Shop Talk Fabricating a crystal oven cover B&K 2040

Wouldn't be better all around to just put in a TCXO xtal with a board? Sorta retrofit it, since it would also serve to make it more reliable and accurate.
Just wondering . . .
That could be done with a little work. Would be a lot more stable.
Pretty good idea. Could also rip out a non working PLL and ass a atmel and DDS vfo. Lots of mods could be done.

Well; yeah. I was just thinking of the Styrofoam melting issue first . . .
Understood Robb. The serial on the one melted is an old unit that stayed plugged in 24/7. When the unit is off it still heats the crystals so they are always stable. Think has been plugged in just about it's entire life. From the 70's. my other unit shows no signs of melting. Just as old but I cut the whole bench supply line off so nothing is left on.
Perhaps in the future I will mod one the way you suggested because that has a lot of merit. These old things do drift a bit.
