WOW 85 watts...some serious power for a vhf mobile. Think it might need a fan?
I wonder what the price is?
I think DX Engineering has it for $172.
There is almost as much electronics in the microphone as there is in the main unit.
I noticed that. I've been wanting a 2 meter mobile and this just might fit the bill.
85 watts is a good idea if you live in repeater fringe area or in hilly terrain.
If 85 watts isn't enough, DX engineering sells a 1200 watt 2 meter amplifier...
If 85 watts on FM is not enough then you need a better antenna. More power is desirable however if you are running SSB or some other weak signal mode but as for FM I have never seen the need for the 50 watts I have.
Specifications say only 39 CTCSS tones. Most contemporary mobiles have 50 tones. There is at least one repeater near me
which uses a tone not included in older radios with only 38 or 39
tones. I have such an older mobile which won't key that repeater. So maybe you should check out the tones you need before you
purchase this radio.
