I just finished building a 2 pill fatboy design amp.I would like to add the driver pill (2290)it's a 3pill board.Just wonder if anyone could help with the component #'s.I need the number of wraps on t-1 and t-2,the multi cap #s on the right side of t-1 and t-2 where there is no pill, input and output silver mica cap.I think the input is 100.

unless you're looking for "feelgood" power measurements 20W is the maximum drive for 2X2SC2879's.

Interesting point since the recommended driver for a 2x2879 comp amp is a 1x2290 amp.

recommended by someone who doesn't have a clue, not by any device manufacturer.
you don't use a 60W transistor to drive 2X2879's, that's three times more input than they're rated for.

This is one of those "don't ask the question, if you don't want to hear the answer" Not trying to be disrespectful or anything but Freecell answer it truthfully, with data to back it up.

If you want the output of the Amp to stay clean, there is no need for a driver in a 2 X 2879.
Even a 4 X 2879 amp needs no driver, a dual final radio will drive them to full output on Ten meters.....full Clean output.
Freecell is correct, if you don`t want garbage comming out, don`t overdrive the input.

This is the Amateur Radio related Amp forum section. What type of competition are you referring to?

The correct drive for a 2 pill 2879 amp would be a nice dual final radio.

All I wanted to do is just see how it would work with the 3 pill design.I had fun building this unit.I used to run a modv back in the day into a Xforce 2x2879 with a lowpass filter and i know what harmonic will do.I use a low drive radio and I would pad the driver section. I Didn't want it to turn into a big problem just needed some parts info.

It is the Amateur section, If you want to post about an Amp That you plan to use for CB, then please post it in the CB section.
We are trying to keep the two seperate. There will not be one section devoted to CB amps, it will just go in the general CB section.
Please understand that we want to allow the sharing of information, a big part of Amateur Radio is Home brew, Building amps, Radios, antennas and the like. A LOT of the Tech stuff that is used in building solid state amps also applys to What is used in the boot leg CB amps.
A Lot of Cheap Cb amps get rebuilt, and cleaned up to be used on ten meters, or 12 or 15 or 17 and so on.
An Amateur can build or mod an amp for his or her own use, however , as most of you know already it is against the rules to run one on the CB band. We are not going to encourge anyone to Use a Amp on CB. Yes we know it is done, and we don`t want to get into a boxxing match over It, we do want to allow info to flow, so that everyone can learn something. We do want to keep materal in its own section.
At this time, I do not plan on going back through years of posts to pull out everything that is related to CB, unless it is a problem. There is a lot of good info there, so we do not want to trash it as well.
We will be asking everyone to put CB related questions in the CB section, and Amateur Questions in the Amateur Section from this point on.
My self and the other Admins will moderate this section and move threads were we thing the should be, related to the subject matter.
It "should" not be a problem.
If it turns into one, then we might have to deal with it in another way.
We are trying to let this forum do what it was intended to do, that is share with others, what we as members, as a whole, have learned so that everyone gets something out of it.

hey greg what kinda hard hat your using?, does it have integrated bnc or would i have to go so239 like the big strappers?,
would so's be ok as i feel andrews would make my neck stiff and for my use maybe a little ott,
do you have spares suitable for my df loop, if so what colors you got?,
black would be good as we do it a night, us foxes like hunting the local rabbits at night it gives them a sporting chance,
this one works great but the handbook is kinda heavy and my glass is now empty,
when i first made this i was banned from using it because it was so effective, kinda like daves ROD OF GOD and the keydown guys, they said

"you aint using that ROD OF BOB thingy at this hunt"

no joke i was banned from using it, there aint no brotherly love with the hunt no more, this shit is serious,
then they realised that me using the loop allowed us to find more people much faster once we were in the area,
the guys hiding in woods, up trees in old railway tunnels under tank cammo covers could not hide from the ROD OF BOB,
more people got a chance to be the rabbit,
you ever see a rabbit hiding up a tree or under tank cammo? nope me neither, "they are smarter than the average fox booboo"
wadayaknow next thing they were all over ebay looking for df equipment,
my 27mhz tuned arrl loop with the sense antenna ( thats the ROD part ) whoops them all,
what you think greg? hook a brother up with them rf hats and some of that superflexible japanese feedline,:D

lol your crazy, ya should know the 6sn7gt is superior using one half of the triode pair as the amplification and the other half as an active load feeding a 300b, no need for drive tube if you have sufficient signal levels at the input,
i will take the hat and sealant and your words of wisdom take care old chum 73's see you around the band:)

And here I was thinking that comp/competition was slang for a Homebrew HF amplifier, they sure look and act like many I have seen minus a few parts on the input and output, atleast the solid state ones with bipolar transistors in them.
