Got the new Sirio Tornado up

That would be 1016mm @ 40". Just for reference. And with antenna set here, it should show decent VSWR. Resonant freq is most likely around 27.405 I would venture to say. Or around that area. VSWR should be a bit lower here than on lower portion of 11m band. JMO. Glad you've got it up and working man!! Now make some contacts while you still can LOL!!!

Bobby, what does your <2.00:1 SWR bandwidth show on your 259b?

Did you get to measure the two dimensions I wanted as noted in the images I posted?

Sorry Marconi I guess I don't know what you need my bad...

That's OK Bobby, communicating such information is not always as easy as it seems.

If we both were standing side by side looking at your new kit...it might be easier for us to describe, but we both might still come away with different ideas about what we just saw. That is human nature.

This particular antenna from Sirio might just be something special in a small way maybe.

I think it might even be described as working very similar to the old Avanti AV-170, 5/8 wave, and that is another design with some controversy in discussion over time.

Bob85 is the one to talk to about my thoughts here however.

Enjoy your new antenna and keep us posted on it performance.

.

Hey, I have one of those in my storage. Cool antenna, except for the too-thin-wall fiberglass insulator hub tube. That's where they all seem to snap in two. I caught mine in time, added a solid fiberglass rod inside the hollow fiberglass tube insulator.

What "controversy" follows that 5/8?

I might be wrong, but I seem to remember sometime back that Bob85 was telling us how good his Avantia 170 worked. At about the same time I also recall him discussing the feed point and the lack of DC grounding with another member. I think the discussion was how to fix the antenna, and maybe some words about how Antenna Specialists changed the AV170 to be DC grounded some years later after buying the rights to Avanti antennas. So, I think the AV170 and the Sirio Tornado 27 were similar in respect to both not being DC grounded.

Below is a link to a recent discussion with Camaro1 taking some heat for claiming the same thing about the Tornado27, not being DC grounded:

I've also raised the issue about the T27 being narrow banded for a 5/8 wave, but this is based on my Eznec model that shows a <2.00:1 SWR bandwidth of 0.70 mhz for CB. That said, the Sirio manual shows only 1.3 mhz bandwidth, and IMO that is also low for a typical vertical CB 5/8 wave.

Do you still have your T27? If so, could you post the dimensions so I can try and fix my model?

I just need the two dimensions noted in the PDF file below, plus the length of the mount below the radial hub.
