Can someone help me with this radio its a mobile 40 channel RadioShack TRC-504 Cat. No. 21-1704 i dont know if thats the model # too cuase it dosent say anywhere on the cb or the box the mode # so.... but anyway i need to know what to turn for the modulatio and what to turn for the wattage if you can help me please tell me

If that's the one with the compass.... there is no audio adjustment. The audio limiter (gasp!) is a chip transistor SMT.

It isn't the one with the compass...

But I do believe everything is SMT. I have one on the way here and maybe I can give it a look-see. A service manual or schematic sure would be handy!

Anyone with any info on this rig?

TRC-504. NOT the one with the built-in compass. Does have channel up/dn on the mic, though. Looking for Schematic, service manual, or anything that identifies the AMC.

OK...

Bought one for $5 off eBay and took a look inside. LC7185 PLL. Not a terribly bad rig for $5!

Anyways, no modulation potentiometer, so I did the old "GE" mod on it and bypassed the diode nearest the audio transformer. That sure enough got some modulation into that thing.

So... Remove D9 and solder a jumper in its place.

Tweak L11 for max power and then back off just a tad.

You'll get 4 watts carrier with mucho PEP.

DO NOT use a power mic or you'll become El Distorto.

Your mileage may vary, but there you are.
