Hi all, was hoping someone here smarter than myself might be able to tell me where I can find a transformer for a sonar br-21 amp. Mine is the 12 volt version. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Are you sure the feedback transformer is okay? A breakdown in either or both the big transistors can smoke it, too.
I have no info at all on either T2 or T3.
The real shock comes when you try to buy a pair of 30-Amp rated PNP-Germanium power transistors.
We stopped repairing mobile tube-type amplifiers like this one a long time ago. The price per Watt tends to go way beyond what a customer would pay to just start over with a solid-state mobile amp the same size.
Sounds a little like restoring a 60 year-old car. Not because it makes economic sense, but because you just want to.
Hi nomadradio, actually I would like to replace both T2 and T3 just to be safe. I did actually locate a couple of the transistors for around 15 bucks each. I know the little box really isn't worth the money it will take to repair it but I just have a soft spot in my heart for odd things like the little sonar. It's one of those projects that would go in my truck as a permanent addition just because of what it is lol.
CB Tricks has the manual but only the schematic for the 120VAC model. Maybe your 12VDC unit could be converted to 120VAC with a home brew HV supply? These have a "relatively low" HV voltage supply to begin with for the continuous duty rating / longevity.
