LOL Well, the guy did apologize for not having the best mount. I know a fella that runs one hard mounted and works 40 regularly. Just thought I'd ask on here.

I call that mount a "worm burner"..lol I'm not a coil expert but for $60 I have no problem trying one out on my F-150 and a Breedlove mount. I wonder how well that would work on 20m with a 102" whip.

It's a very similar design to the Superantennas portable design or any other small screwdriver antenna. They will get you on the air and you can have a whole lot of fun, but don't expect miracles.

Long, skinny coils tend to have a high Q, and therefore a narrow bandwidth. I try to aim for a coil with a form factor closer to 1. (Meaning it's closer to being square)

i just ordered the silver bullet coil. ill report how well it works.

got the coil. it is very well made. i just haven't had the time to mess with it yet.

i hooked up the coil with a 102inch whip.
works great what ever band you tune for. it will cover the entire band.
works great for me.

Jon, I appreciate you adding your input. I haven't been playing radio in quite a while thanks to a shattered calcaneous and surgery to screw it all back together. I'm still considering this coil, although I would lean towards the shorter one because of total height on my pickup. The price is right, and I really plan just to use it on 40 meters.
